Job Description
The Nevada System of Higher Education (NSHE) invites applications and nominations for the position of Research Administrator. This is a soft-funded, renewable, full-time, non-tenured, administrative position and reports to the Director, System Sponsored Programs & EPSCoR. The position is located in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The NSHE is comprised of eight institutions: two universities, a state college, four community colleges and a research institute. The public system of higher education in Nevada continues to experience growth with significant challenges and opportunities in serving over 105,000 students and 15,000 employees.
Job Description: This position supports the Nevada NASA EPSCoR and Space Grant programs, the Nevada EPSCoR program, and the System Sponsored Programs Office. The major purpose of the position is to provide pre award/post award research administration and programmatic oversight for the Nevada NASA programs that are awarded to NSHE from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The incumbent is responsible for coordination and preparation of proposal budgets; allocation of program funding; preparation of subawards to NSHE institutions; assistance with the reporting and evaluation requirements of the grant; and the performance of other administrative duties as needed. The incumbent also supervises, plans, coordinates and evaluates the work of the NASA Program Coordinator. The position provides support for the NASA EPSCoR & Space Grant Project Director, who has overall oversight for management of the NASA EPSCoR and Space Grant programs.
STARTING SALARY: Grade C (starting salary range approximately $70,000.00 to $80,000.00; depending on experience). A benefits package that includes medical, dental, vision, life, and retirement.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution with two years of progressively responsible non-profit/higher education environment managing budgets and programs. Certified Research Administrator (CRA) preferred. US Citizenship required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Successful candidates must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities. It is recommended that applicants for this position address each of the following items in the letter of application:
  • Fundamentals of preaward/postaward grant administration
  • OMB Uniform Guidance and NSHE rules and regulations
  • Higher education or non-profit experience
  • Organization and management of multiple projects

RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties of this position will include, but not be limited to, the following areas of responsibility within the System Sponsored Programs and EPSCoR Office:
  • administer program budget that is typically over $2 million annually
  • oversee all accounting and financial transactions, approve expenditures and maintain fiscal oversight of programs
  • prepare subawards and distribute grant funds, process modifications to awards
  • review invoices from subawardees to ensure compliance with program requirements as well as state and federal regulations
  • prepare independent contractor forms
  • track project cost-sharing
  • oversee purchasing card and expenditures to a central operating budget
  • assist in post award accounting and close out cycles
  • ensure compliance to federal regulations, non-regulatory guidelines, and Office of Management and Budget requirements (Uniform Guidance)
  • work with a team consisting of research faculty, and administrators to provide overall programmatic needs
  • develop and prepare grant applications and submit grants through required portals
  • oversee and coordinate request for proposals (RFPs) statewide, prepare proposals for review, organize reviewer panels
  • compile and submit interim and annual reports while ensuring reporting and evaluation requirements are met
  • communicate and work collaboratively with individuals from a broad range of demographic, ethnic, educational, economic and professional backgrounds
  • supervise NASA Project Coordinator
  • travel statewide and to national meetings
