Job Description

MRI Technologies is looking for an experienced Senior-Level Site Reliability Engineer to support our AppDat Platform at NASA.

AppDat is a fully automated Kubernetes-centric Platform as a Service (PaaS) provider, dedicated to advancing NASA's initiatives in space exploration. Our mission is to deliver resilient cloud infrastructure and modernize development environments that propel the boundaries of space technology. We are seeking a seasoned Site Reliability Engineer to join our ranks in this bold endeavor.

Since our inception, we have been a beacon of innovation, partnering with NASA to overcome the complex challenges of space flight. As an SRE at AppDat, you will take on the mantle of ensuring that all our systems and services not only run reliably but also continue to evolve and support NASA's pioneering missions.

The MRI developer team is a group of passionate developers, working closely together to identify problems at NASA. We are passionate about open source software and take a very pragmatic approach when evaluating the tooling, languages, and frameworks used on a given project. This position is 100% remote, working with a fantastic team of developers from across the country on innovative projects at multiple NASA centers. On this team you get the best of both worlds, the start-up feel of a group of passionate developers and the excitement of working for NASA.

As an AppDat SRE, you will:

  • Design, implement, and manage robust, scalable cloud infrastructure with a focus on Kubernetes and Terraform.
  • Innovate CI/CD pipelines for streamlined code deployment, enhancing the functionality across diverse NASA projects.
  • Embed SRE principles into cross-functional workflows to improve system durability and scalability, addressing the unique needs of space exploration.
  • Develop sophisticated monitoring solutions, assuring high availability and peak performance for a range of critical applications.
  • Manage the complete lifecycle of infrastructure and applications, adhering to the stringent standards required for spaceflight support systems.
  • Enforce strict security protocols and data protection laws, ensuring the safeguarding of sensitive information.
  • Share your expertise and encourage a culture of continuous learning and adaptation within our passionate team of developers.
  • Stay informed on the latest trends in SRE, cloud computing, and containerization, ensuring AppDat remains a leader in space technology services.

Technologies / Experience Required:

  • Expertise in Kubernetes (K8), Terraform, Git, Kustomize, Elasticstack, and Gitlab CI/CD.
  • A proven track record in deploying cloud-native solutions on GCP (preferred) or AWS.
  • Proficiency in creating automated solutions and continuous software delivery in a Kubernetes-based CI/CD environment.

Preferences:

  • Significant contributions to open-source communities.
  • Experience with cloud migrations and a desire to learn and grow with new technologies.
  • Senior-level proficiency in programming languages (preferably Go, C#, Typescript) and familiarity with frameworks like Vue, Angular 2.x+.

Education and Experience:

  • A degree in computer science or equivalent industry experience.
  • Extensive knowledge and practical experience in Kubernetes, GitLab, PostgreSQL, and preferred programming languages and frameworks.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of experience as a SRE, or related role.
  • Experience with both AWS and GCP.

What We Expect:

  • A self-starter comfortable with self-direction, a problem-solver and identifier, and a passion for contributing to humanity's role as a space-faring civilization.
  • A data-driven, analytical mindset with experience in Cloud Services, Kubernetes, Serverless, and distributed systems.
  • An advocate for a blameless culture and experienced in developing and running highly available systems.

Why Join AppDat?

  • You will build architectures that serve as the foundation for NASA's development teams, streamlining their path to innovation.
  • Your role will involve effective communication with our team, the broader open-source community, and various stakeholders within NASA.
  • You will help deliver highly automated systems that foster self-sufficiency and reduce complexity, contributing to the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of NASA's missions

What we offer:

MRI is a well-established small business contractor, with contacts deeply rooted within NASA Johnson Space Center. There is a lot of opportunity to meet, learn from and engage people across the country including NASA civil-servant employees, cloud providers, major software vendors, other contractors, and the open-source community. Everyone on our team is encouraged to identify problems as they arise, formalize them into proposals, and is given the opportunity to get their proposal in front of the right people at NASA to make it a priority.

MRI offers a Comprehensive Benefits Package including competitive salary, medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurance, paid time off, and 401(k). Flexible scheduling and telework opportunities enhance work life balance.

Due to the nature of the NASA work, candidate must be a U.S. Citizen and successfully complete a U.S. government background investigation.
