Position:NAS Engineer
Summary:
This role supports the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), which is responsible for ensuring the safety of 45,000 flights and 3 million passengers traversing over 28 million miles of U.S. controlled airspace every day. A critical part of that mission is to support the engineering, program management, and acquisition planning associated with air traffic control automation capabilities of the FAA.
Objective Area Solutions (OAS) is seeking an engineer to provide expertise in National Airspace Systems (NAS) programs and the FAA's Acquisition Management System to support the Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS) Program team. This position will support those activities the FAA undertakes to successfully monitor, control and direct the life cycle activities associated with acquisition, deployment and in-service management of systems and services that result in the modernization, upgrade and maintenance of the National Airspace System. In addition, the selected person must interface with various FAA stakeholders to ensure acceptance of developed documentation.
This is a hybrid position but we may consider remote candidates. Periodic travel to government locations across the country may be required.

Position Functions & Skills:
The candidate shall work with minimal supervision and support will include, but not be limited to, the following activities:
- Be familiar with systems engineering practices and FAA engineering requirements.
- Perform system engineering, network architecture & engineering, and Enterprise Architecture assessments
- Ensure connectivity and compatibility with surveillance data and protocols
- Provide program plan development and maintenance assistance
- Assess performance shortcomings, develop improvement recommendations, and implement change
- Provide engineering input to support procurement and acquisition planning activities
- Prepare program status reports
- Provide technical input for the analysis and screening of FAA information requests, either from other FAA organizations or from exterior stakeholders
- Assist in the development of the products required for investment analysis phases of TAMR
- Assist communications management, internally within the FAA and externally with stakeholder organizations and Government oversight organizations
- Assist in managing and tracking technical and program requirements
- Support and coordinate TAMR systems engineering meetings
- Support briefing development
- Prepare for and participate in meetings, including weekly tactical and strategic meetings, internal program reviews, and vendor requirement reviews
- The selected person will work on the STARS Program team supporting those activities the FAA undertakes to successfully monitor, control and direct the life cycle activities associated with acquisition, deployment and in-service management of systems and services that result in the modernization, upgrade and maintenance of the National Airspace System.
- In addition, the selected person must interface with various FAA stakeholders to ensure acceptance of developed documentation
- B.S. in Engineering
- 5-10 years of relevant experience
- Familiarity with NAS
- Knowledge of the FAA's Acquisition Management System
- Excellent verbal and written communications
- Excellent collaboration skills
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated experience working with aviation data (e.g., flight plans, radar, other positional data)
- Active US Government security clearance
- The selected person will be required to work closely with personnel located at FAA HQs in Washington, DC. Other travel may be required.
