Narrative Arts Lead - Localization (Bilingual Korean/English)

Tapas Entertainment is seeking a Narrative Arts Lead based in California with the ability to travel to the Los Angeles office space 3 days per week. Reporting to the Localization Manager, this individual will manage multiple webcomic and webnovel localization projects, bringing them through production and ensuring that all projects are completed on schedule for digital distribution.

Responsibilities:

• Source translation, editing, and quality control contractors and serve as liaison between contractors and internal teams
• Be the subject matter expert for the English localization of Korean web comics and web novels. This includes owning the workflow and related tools and ensuring all content meets a high level of quality
• Supervise and support the day-to-day translation/QC workload including but not limited to translating, reviewing, and editing localized works. And, keep track of the capacity and efficiency of freelance team members
• Adapt localization processes and procedures to ensure adherence to Tapas' quality standards
• Adjust and develop localization guidelines, documentation, and resources
• Regularly work with other teams in both the U.S. and Korea, particularly with Acquisitions and Marketing, coordinating the localization needs and creative requests between international teams
• Monitor localization production and escalate any potential issues
• Provide regular feedback to freelance team members on performances
• Perform other duties as may be assigned by Localization management

Qualifications:

• Must have high-level proficiency in Korean and English 
• Minimum 2+ years of translation experience, ideally with works of fiction
• Minimum 3+ years of people as well as project management experience, ideally leading and mentoring a large team of freelancers
• Familiarity with Google Suites and CAT tools such as Phrase 
• Commitment to building a positive work culture and fostering collaboration
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal; ability to articulately present to stakeholders outside the team and organization
• Strict adherence to deadlines, advance planning to efficiently allocate resources
• A love of storytelling and a respect for the storytellers whose work we are helping to share

Preferred Qualifications:

• Familiarity with CMS and digital platforms such as Slack and Dropbox directly related to publishing workflows and content lifecycle management
• A passion for webcomics is a big plus, as is a love for our storytelling community

$70,000 - $85,000 a year

The salary range stated above is determined by role, level, and location referenced in the job posting. Within the range, individual pay is determined by experience, skill sets, and organizational needs. Tapas Entertainment expects to hire for this position near the middle of the range. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role. Only in exceptional circumstances where a candidate has experience and expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position would Tapas Entertainment consider paying a salary near the higher end of the range.
