CTE Culinary Teacher

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION

To develop in each pupil the listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills that are fundamental to good communication and literacy citizenship; to discover and develop pupils' special talents in multiple vocational fields; and to prepare students for participation in post-secondary school CTE programs and direct placements in the designated CTE areas.

To provide classroom and/or laboratory instruction in any of the following areas: culinary, nutrition, and early childhood prep.


PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Teaches CTE courses in at least two areas: Culinary/Food Services and Early Childhood Prep (P-2).
  • Provide clear and intentional focus on subject matter content and curriculum utilizing a variety of teaching strategies to promote student engagement while providing CTE pathways.
  • Assumes responsibility for implementing and teaching a specialized program in a subject area allowing students to receive Dual Credits and/or Industry Related Certifications (IRCs).
  • Serves as an advisor (as appropriate) for the local chapter of CTSO (Career and Technical Student Organization).
  • Participates in advisory committee activities as directed by school administration, which include community meetings, yearly program evaluations, and end-of-year reports.
  • Is able to work in a collaborative team environment with CTE faculty, other staff, parents/legal guardians, and community members.
  • Is able/willing to implement and help refine/develop local and WA CTE standards and frameworks.
  • Instructs pupils in 21st Century Skills, including citizenship and communications.
  • Design learning activities that will relate the subject area to the physical world and high-demand careers.


TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Valid Washington State CTE Teaching Certificate
  • Appropriate endorsement and Highly Qualified Status in subject area as defined by No Child Left Behind and Washington State required
  • Skills to motivate students, communicate effectively with individuals from varied educational and cultural backgrounds, direct support personnel, evaluate student performance, demonstrate activities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of computers and computer applications; ability to integrate technology with other forms of classroom instruction
  • Experience and/or training with cultural, ethnic, and language diversity is preferred
  • Knowledge of age-appropriate teaching methods, state curriculum, benchmarks and framework, education code, appropriate instructional subjects
  • Willingness to supervise/direct extracurricular activities
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
  • Knowledge of curriculum, education code, and district policies
  • Abilities to stand and walk for prolonged periods, perform a variety of specialized and responsible tasks, maintain records, establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and other school personnel, and meet schedules and deadlines. Significant physical abilities include reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/accommodation/field of vision, and may include lifting/carrying 25 lbs.
  • Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required: Valid State CTE Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement(s); Highly Qualified status in appropriate area(s); Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance

  • Valid Washington State Certificate
  • CTE Certificate or ability to be certified in V-Code 19501, 120505, 190708
