POSITION SUMMARY

The Cargo Sales Manager will create and maintain excellent relationship with our high value business customers. Responsible for promoting and selling air cargo services to and from rural Alaska. The Cargo Sales Manager works as an individual contributor who is responsible for building brand loyalty within assigned geographical territories and industries and throughout the state. The Cargo Sales Manager will develop and retain account relationships, secure new business by providing excellent customer service while promoting the NAC brand to maximize revenue.  This person will offer the best possible customer experience as well as provide hands-on explanations of services and shipment status when necessary.

COMPENSATION  

This position has a salary range of $28.63 to $42.95 per year.

NORTHERN AIR CARGO 

Northern Air Cargo is a subsidiary of Saltchuk Aviation Shared Services and part of the Saltchuk family of companies. Our mission is to provide safe, reliable aviation services for our customers and create a place for employees to build long-term careers. Northern Air Cargo services customers in Alaska, Florida, Hawaii, South America, and the Caribbean. 

DUTIES
  • Monitor freight movement for key customers. Works closely with key operational departments including load control and operations to meet customer expectations.
  • Respond to customer questions and requests and follow up with proposals to provide solutions to customers’ needs while increasing revenue for the company.
  • Think outside the box to promptly resolve all customer requests, questions and complaints.
  • Meet with existing customers to review current services and expand sales opportunities.
  • Propose pricing programs for customers and assist in the regular maintenance of these programs.
  • Track, report, and document customer meetings and contact. Provide updates and status on accounts on a regular basis both verbally and in writing.
  • Coordinate and participate in community and customer appreciation events and represent NAC at trade association meetings and conventions in Anchorage and rural Alaska. Occasional travel out of state may be required.
  • Gather market and industry information as needed for strategic use by NAC
  • Prepare and present quarterly performance reports for senior management.
  • Stay current with key industry and economic trends throughout Alaska.
  • Travel throughout assigned territory to call on existing and prospective customers to develop and in-depth knowledge of assigned territory and industry, solicit NAC business, and to develop brand recognition and loyalty.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 

Education
  • High school diploma or GED required.
Experience
  • College degree or equivalent experience in business, marketing, transportation, or logistics required.
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Experience as an outside business to business account representative.
  • Working knowledge of airfreight charter operations and services preferred.
  • Experience working Alaska’s rural communities and Anchorage’s business community preferred.
  • Knowledge of business to business sales concepts and techniques
  • Ability to interact with various levels of management and staff throughout the organization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Self-starter with strong relationship building skills
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and work independently.
  • Strong computer skills with the ability to utilize standard software applications and be proficient in Windows and MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel).
  • Ability to exercise professional judgment and makes decisions in logical and rational manner
  • Ability to write proposals, presentations, performance reports and business correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, department staff, customers and the general public.
  • Must be able to effectively use technology such as; communication platforms, email, and phone.
  • Ability to learn air freight rates and tariffs. Excellent customer service and selling skills required. Must understand strategic business planning, sales, marketing, and community relations.
  • Ability to identify customer solutions and creatively work in a remote environment. Ability to use Excel and other table-based information for account analysis, rate evaluation and pricing.
  • Ability to travel to rural Alaska and outside the state, 1-3 days per trip (10-30% of the time).
