To inspect and perform skilled maintenance and repair of musical instruments used in District music programs and classes.
Essential Job FunctionsThe position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year of college or vocational school education and/or specialized training in musical instrument repair or related field and four (4) years of journeyman music instrument repair or related experience. The position also requires a valid Drivers' License with a good driving record on most recent MVR.
Degree Equivalency Formula:
Bachelor's Degree= 4 years plus required years of experience.
Master's Degree= 2 years plus required years of experience. Where Master's degrees are required, years for Bachelor's Degrees must be included.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Knowledge of the construction, assembly, adjustment and maintenance of musical instruments
- Knowledge of operation of a machinist lathe, drill press, band saw, belt-sander, floor mount buffing machine and electroplater
- Thorough knowledge of the musical instrument repair trade including tools and equipment
- Knowledge of the administrative requirements associated with processing invoices and work orders, and monitoring contracted repair work
- Skilled in the use and care of a variety of hand and power tools necessary to perform a variety of band and orchestra instrument repair reconstruction work
- Ability to analyze malfunctions in the musical instruments and to make effective repairs and adjustments
- Ability to use computers and the knowledge to interpret the data Ability to play instrument to assure proper performance
- Ability to clean instruments using solutions that are environmentally safe
Physical Demands: Requires sedentary work involving standing or walking for brief periods, exerting up to 10 pounds of force on a regular basis; and some dexterity in operating office equipment; must be able to use hands and fingers for sign language.
Unavoidable Hazards: The position is exposed to no unusual environmental hazards.
Sensory (ADA) Requirements: The position requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, hearing and speaking abilities.
