This is a seasonal position.

$16/hr. and a Free YMCA Membership

To further the mission of the camp through the development and delivery of music activities that are safe, fun, and appropriate to the campers’ age and abilities. Assist in the management of the music equipment and supplies. Incumbent should possess a dance or theatrical background, with the ability to teach basic dance steps.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and deliver a music program that is appropriate for the age and ability of the campers and that utilizes the natural environment and the value of camping.

  • Write lesson plans that meet the abilities for both the “Younger Village” (K-3 grade) and “Older Village” (grades 4-9th).

  • Younger Village should include learning famous line dances that can be learned in one period of the camp daily schedule.

  • Older Village should encompass progress programming where campers will learn choreographed routines throughout the week set to popular or today’s hits.

  • Programming for any age could include choreography, Broadway or Musical re-creation.

  • Design and deliver activities that ensure varied projects for each week/day.

  • Hand in weekly curriculum no later than Thursday the week before programming.

  • Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning and leading those as assigned.

  • Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and participate in Family Nights, Special Event Fridays, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.

  • Assist in ratio as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.

  • The individual must have an interest, knowledge, and skills in team building and music program .

  • Candidates should have experience in coaching or group dynamics. He/she must have the ability to teach and motivate participants of every age and an interest and knowledge in camp functionst.

  • Individuals must possess values consistent with the mission of the YMCA.

  • Must be CPR/AED certified or ability to obtain.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.

  • Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.

  • Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.

  • Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.
