The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) is actively seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty member in Music at our La Plata campus.
Music faculty are student advisors and have professional experience. Prior experience of Music faculty provides credence to the learning process and allows students to understand both theory and practice in the field. Our faculty are engaged to help students connect music theory and practice to real-world application. CSM faculty are expected to be knowledgeable of learning management systems in addition to face-to-face and innovative technology-based instructional delivery approaches. As such, we are seeking an innovative educator to join our Music faculty. Music faculty teach courses such as Music Theory, Ear Training, Private Instruction, Music History, and General Education classes for majors and non-majors.
We have highly skilled and creative faculty who incorporate the latest teaching approaches and technology into their instructional delivery. Our faculty works closely with students inside and outside of the classroom to help them maximize their success. Faculty may serve as advisors to student clubs such as Composer’s Club and clubs both inside and outside of music. Visual and Performing Arts department faculty are also active in collaborations with other disciplines and departments in activities such as STEAM, art and design, dance, and musical theater. Many Visual and Performing Arts faculty participate in regional, state, and national activities such as conferences, festivals, auditions, and competitions.

Specific Duties and ResponsibilitiesMusic faculty teach a wide range of first- and second-year undergraduate classes. The successful faculty member will teach fifteen credit hours per semester and thirty credit hours per academic year of day, evening, or weekend classes. Flexibility is required to work in this position as teaching assignments may vary from semester to semester. There may be an opportunity to teach classes in the summer also. Faculty may be assigned to teach on any campus or center where CSM offers classes. The faculty member hired in this position is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities to promote student-centered learning and success. At a minimum, the related activities include instruction, holding office hours, serving on various committees, and demonstrating a commitment to professional development thorough participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities, and organizations. Music faculty may be asked to serve as Coordinator of the Music degree program. Ensemble supervision will be considered with appropriate credentials and availability of a posting. Course releases will be determined when needed.
