BASIC PURPOSE
The Music Education Specialist is responsible for promoting and leading corps music and arts programs and assisting in the leading of divisional music and arts programs including, but not limited to, divisional music rehearsals and summer camps. They will also serve as a member of the divisional media team for divisional events.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Work with corps officers to promote effective music ministry programs across the division, both in person and online.
- Provide direct leadership of music and arts programs at 3-4 corps locations weekly throughout Northern California and other locations as instructed.
- Assist with the planning and leadership of divisional music programs including, but not limited to, Del Oro Brass & Chorus, Divisional Youth Ensembles, and Encore
- Assist with the planning and leadership of divisional music events including, but not limited to, Encore, Music & Worship Arts Camp, Divisional Christmas Concert, and Divisional Ensemble Ministry Weekends.
- Serve as a member of the divisional media team for divisional events including, but not limited to, Divisional Youth Retreat, Men’s Camp, Women’s Retreat, Young Adult Retreat, and Family Camp.
- Assist in coordinating logistics for divisional events as needed.
- Assist in coordinating logistics for divisional participation in territorial events included, but not limited to, Encore, Western Music Institute (WMI), Territorial Youth Band/Chorus, and Creative Arts Conference.
- Assist in the maintenance and management of the divisional music library and equipment inventory.
- Play with or lead ensembles for special events as needed.
- Assist with the development and mentorship of local music and arts leaders.
- Serve as a member of the WMI faculty as requested by Territory Headquarters (THQ) and approved by divisional leadership.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER QUALIFICATIONS REQUIREMENTS
- At least 2 years of music education experience
- Bachelor’s degree in music or related field preferred.
- Working knowledge of audio, video, and lighting equipment preferred.
- Working knowledge of ProPresenter preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, and computer skills.
- Christian with a demonstrated personal faith, uniformed Salvationist preferred.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
- Must possess a valid California Class C Driver License, and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle.
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Authorize The Salvation Army to add name to the CA DMV Pull Notice Program
- Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist on an intermittent or sometimes continuous basis.
- Ability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects.
- Ability to reach overhead.
- Ability to operate telephone.
- Ability to lift up to 50-70 lbs.
- Ability to operate a computer.
- Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information.
- Ability to operate basic office equipment and tools PC, Fax Machine, Telephone, Calculator, Copier, Printer.
