Museum Store Clerk

Storm King Art Center seeks a seasonal Museum Store Clerk to work as part the Visitor Operations Department through mid-December 2022. Candidates must have availability to work at least one weekend day and holidays.

About the role

Museum Store Clerks are the retail segment of our Visitor Operations Department and is responsible for enhancing the visitor experience in a friendly and professional manner; assisting visitors by answering questions on the site and over the phone about amenities and services; and by providing general information on Storm King exhibitions, artists, and collection.

Museum Store Clerks provide customer service to visitors at both indoor and outdoor locations throughout the vast property; answer questions, sell store merchandise and Memberships; operate Point of Sale (cash register); and assist in answering the high-volume main phone line.

Hours/Schedules

We seek candidates who can work at least three weekdays including one weekend day for a minimum of 16.5 hours per week, mid-May through mid-December, with the possibility of an increased work schedule from mid-September through mid-November. Candidates must be able to work holidays.

• Must be reliable, punctual, and flexible.
• Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Ability to interact with visitors and staff in a consistently friendly and professional manner.
• Enjoy working with the public outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Ability to work well both in a team and individually.
• Ability to keep store clean and restocked.
• Ability to assist with store pop-up and events as needed.
• Ability to count, update sales and inventory records, then access and restock retail vending machines out onsite.
• Willingness to learn about Storm King history, exhibitions, collection, and site.

Preferred Requirements

• Prior cash handling and Point of Sale System (cash register). We will provide training.
• Altru Daily Sales experience a plus.

Physical Working Conditions

• Ability to maneuver outdoors, in all weather conditions, on 500- acres of hills, grass, and gravel path ways.
• Ability to vocalize on a two-way radio.
• Ability to stand in one location for long periods of time.
• Ability to lift/move up to 30 lbs.
• Ability to operate a Point-of-Sale System (cash register).
• Ability to see and hear or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately to assure that the requirements of this position can be fully met.

Compensation and Benefits

The hiring hourly rate is $17.50 per hour. This seasonal, non-exempt position is not eligible for paid time off or other benefits, other than those required by law, which includes NYS Sick Leave.
