The Seasonal Part-Time Museum Educator is an integral part of the Youth and Family Programs team and is responsible for delivering high-quality educational experiences for k-12 students, teachers, and families. Following a pre-written curriculum, the Museum Educator leads and facilitates field trips, day camps, Girl Scout programs, and homeschool activities. These lessons are based on the work and legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright, and our curriculum includes science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) based content.


The ideal candidate brings a spirit of flexibility and possesses skills in teaching, informal education, formal education and/or childcare. They are able to think several steps ahead and, at times, independently prepare for and lead an educational activity. The successful candidate thinks on their feet and learns autonomously to effectively comprehend and teach pre-written lesson/program plans. 


This role is seasonal part-time (from January through April 2024) with a regular schedule of 4 days a week, generally from 8:00am - 1:00pm. Typical working days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday, depending on programmatic needs. The rate of pay is $17/hour. Please note, the candidate must also be available to work 30 hours during Spring Break day camp, from March 18-22, 2024. 


Essential Functions:

  • Teach and/or co-teach alongside the Senior Museum Educator, programs for k-12 students, families, k-12 educators, homeschoolers, and Girl Scouts.
  • Assist with set-up and tear down of all educational programs and activities in various locations across the Taliesin West property. 
  • Communicate clear safety rules and maintain control of the group to ensure guests' safety and minimize potential damage to our historic property.
  • Follow departmental policies and procedures, understand the Employee Handbook, and communicate emergency situations to manager and/or supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate excellent oral communication and presentation skills with a guest-centric focus and effectively present information and respond to questions.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service skills. 
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, volunteers, and all members of the public.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

To successfully perform this role, individuals must meet the following criteria:

  • Experience in teaching youth audiences. 
  • Background in Education, Museum Studies, History, Art History, or Architecture.
  • Ability to stand and/or walk for up to 3 hours without rest.
  • Ability to research and understand STEAM based topics to deepen personal understanding, which increases success when working with students. 
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to comfortably work with youth, family, and educator audiences. 
  • Commitment to a regular work schedule of 20 hours per week.
  • Ability to work 30 hours during Spring Break day camp, from March 18-22, 2024. 
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within quickly changing priorities with enthusiasm and good humor. 
  • Ability to navigate and traverse desert terrain, both paved and unpaved, in all kinds of weather.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Informal or formal teaching experience highly desired. 
  • Knowledge of Frank Lloyd Wright and his architectural principles.
  • Basic knowledge of technology, such as iPads/handheld devices, and computer applications/programs like Microsoft Office Suite.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. 

Work environment: Work is performed indoors and outdoors at a historic site with uneven surfaces and desert terrain. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

OSHA Risk Classification for COVID-19 Exposure: Medium Risk: This position requires frequent/close contact with the public and other co-workers and is therefore determined to fall within the Medium Risk category as defined by OSHA. To further minimize risk, employees are required to follow the Foundation's Safe and Healthy Workplace guidelines and related personal and facility infection control policies.
