Job description

Job Summary: This position is responsible for general tasks, administrative and clerical work necessary to support Pine Mountain Gold Museum, and staff, and to fulfil the Mission Statement.

All staff are expected to make excellent Customer Service their personal responsibility.

Major Duties:

  • Provides general customer/visitor service;
  • Receives and responds to public inquiries on the telephone and in person; provides information and refers inquiries to other City employees when required;
  • Operating museum shop; stocking shop, and supplies; operating cash register;
  • Operating Museum tour; operating audio/video equipment;
  • Light cleaning and maintenance of museum facilities, displays, artifacts, Museum Catalogue, archive, and grounds when required; maintains a clean and organized work area;
  • Assists with the creation and maintenance of exhibits and displays;
  • Compiles data for daily, monthly, and annual reports as assigned;
  • Processes external mail;
  • Provides technical, physical and logistical support to staff during special events, and group visitation;
  • Operating panning shed; stocking shed, and supplies;
  • Assists in loading/unloading supplies, and materials as needed;
  • Assists in meeting planning, scheduling, and preparation; makes appointments; attends all on site staff meetings;
  • Display a positive attitude and willingness to work as part of a team;
  • Performs other duties as assigned;

Knowledge Required by the Position:

  • Knowledge of Museum practices and methods;
  • Ability to compile data, and write clear, concise reports;
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City officials, employees, and the public;
  • Excellent written, and verbal communication skills; proficient mathematical skills;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, and in writing;
  • Knowledge of City ordinances, policies, procedures; and Pine Mountain Gold Museum policies;
  • Knowledge of modern office procedures, and equipment;
  • Knowledge of the operation of a variety of tools, and equipment;
  • Skill in using a variety of computer programs for administrative functions;

Supervisory Controls: The work of this position is performed under the general supervision of the Museum Director.

Guidelines: Guidelines include City and departmental policies, procedures, safety manuals, and the Mission Statement.

Complexity: The work consists of general tasks, administrative and clerical work necessary to support Pine Mountain Gold Museum, and staff, and to fulfil the Mission Statement.

Personal Contacts: Contacts are typically with the general public, co-workers, and vendors.

Purpose of Contacts: Contacts are typically accessed to give and exchange information; and to provide services to the general public.

Physical Demands: The work is performed both outdoors, and indoors as required by task. Work typically involves occasional moderate lifting, and occasional use of tools, or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.

Work Environment: The work is performed both outdoors, and indoors as required by task. Work requires staff be able to walk uninterrupted for up to 40 minutes, to cross uneven, broken ground in a variety of weather conditions. Periodically, this work will be at offsite locations and/or after dark, or on a modified schedule meeting the requirements of special events.

Supervisory and Management Responsibility: None.

Minimum Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree or two (2) years of college or technical coursework preferred; one (1) year administrative work experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, volunteer work and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
