The City of Avondale has an opportunity for a Municipal Security Sergeant assigned to the Avondale Office of Public Safety Department. This is a full-time, FLSA non-exempt position, with benefits.
Actively supervises the day-to-day security services to make certain the responsibilities of Municipal Security officers are being met.
Reviews work schedules, ADP time clock entries, written reports, and log entries to ensure they are clear, brief, and accurate.
Make sure Municipal Security officers attend and complete annual training recertifications which include taser, pepper spray, body worn camera and defensive tactics.
Monitor's city camera system activities, burglar, and fire alarm systems.
Oversee City's access control system OnGuard. Will be the administrator providing key card access to employees, issuing ID cards, and implementing door access control for every building in the city.
Observes, coaches, and provides continuous, constructive feedback to security officers on their performance of the unit's professional duties and behaviors to ensure yearly performance goals are met.
Plans, prioritizes and assigns work schedules to all duty posts which include City Hall, Court and Administration building.
Manages PPR files for employees and annual evaluations. Prepare cost estimates for budget recommendations; submits justifications for budget items.
Oversees City's emergency alert notification system Centurion. Will be the administrator placing, monitoring, and testing equipment of the system.High School diploma or equivalency. Work requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical or office processes. Level of knowledge equivalent to four years of high school or equivalency. Possession of an AA degree or 64 credit hours from an accredited college/university with coursework in law enforcement or a related field is preferred.
Minimum of three (3) years' experience in a similar position, such as security officer, police/community services officer, or police/detention officer.
Some supervisory experience in varied administrative support work, preferably with some experience in the supervision of operations in a law enforcement setting is preferred.
Must obtain Court Security Officer Certification through the Arizona Court Security Guard Academy within 1 year after hire.
Will be required to wear a body armor.
Valid Arizona Operator's Driver's License.
Within six (6) months of hire, shall obtain Arizona DPS ACJIS Terminal Operator Certification Level A, CPR, First Aid, Body Worn Camera and Defensive Tactics training.
Pre-hire evaluation may include but not be limited to an oral board, background check, polygraph examination, pre-employment drug screen and psychological assessments.Ability to read, understand, interpret, explain, and strictly apply applicable laws, ordinances, policies and regulations.
Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Experience with, or ability to learn computer-based statistical programs for use in capturing workload data.
Work requires the ability to write reports, briefings, letters, and general correspondence. Filling out forms, daily activity reports on any criminal activities, and monthly statistical reports.
Work requires supervising and monitoring performance for a group of regular employees in a work unit, including providing input on hiring/disciplinary actions and work objectives/effectiveness, and realigning work as needed.
Planning responsibilities include planning work details for events and meetings, scheduling and liaison with court and other city departments, ordering supplies, and completing Bureau-related projects as assigned.
Prepares documents and does research to justify language used in documents for a unit of a department and may recommend budget allocations. Does research for documents, compiles data for computer entry, and/or oversees data entry. Has responsibility for monitoring budget expenditures (typically non-discretionary expenditures) for a work unit of less than department size.
Work involves choices of action within limits set by standard practices and procedures. Professional judgment is required to apply the proper course of action.
This position communicates with law enforcement personnel, courts and general public on a daily basis. Must also maintain interpersonal skills for the supervision of subordinates. In addition, work with individuals outside the City who may belong to professional or peer organizations. Working with various state and federal agencies may also be required of the employee. Vendors and suppliers may also be called upon for information on purchases, supplies or products. Meetings and discussions may be conducted with customers, brokers and sales representatives.
