The City of Avondale is accepting applications for the position of Municipal Security Officer. This is a full-time position, FLSA non-exempt with benefits.

Provides security for the City Hall complex and other city facilities, enforces rules and regulations and answers questions and provides information to the general public, and provides customer service as required.
Patrol City Hall complex and other city facilities which includes City Hall, Library, City Court, and Police building, both on foot and in a patrol vehicle
Monitor video surveillance of all city complexes
Observation at assigned locations and notifies the Police Department of any emergencies or suspicious activities
Performs customer service assistance such as directing citizens to other city facilities
Evaluate and resolve customer service-related complaints
Communicate via portable radio to maintain contact with Police resources
Observe and report deficiencies to City buildings, such as safety hazards and security concerns
Receive and investigate security-related complaints
Respond to emergency situations
Performs security for City Council meetings
A high school diploma or equivalency is required
A minimum of one (1) year of experience in the same or similar position, such as Security Officer, police officer, or detention officer
Knowledge of industrial security policy and procedures and electronic security alarms and systems
Skill in communications through portable radio and reacting to emergency situations
May be required to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
Must complete DPS Terminal Operator Certificate (TOC) within six (6) months of hire
Must obtain Court Security Officer Certification through the Arizona Court Security Guard Academy within one (1) year of hire date.Will be required to wear a ballistic vest and utility belt as part of the required uniform.
Must be able to pass a certified Defensive Tactics Training Course.Ability to handle interactions with hostile or irate individuals, identify unsafe or hazardous conditions and behaviors, and maintain a professional working relationship with City employees and visitors
Requires driving, standing, and walking to City buildings, parking areas, and grounds in designated areas to observe unusual behavior and to prevent vandalism
Valid Arizona driver's license or the ability to obtain one at the time of hire.
This position will require a complete background investigation, which may also include a polygraph and psychological exam.
Ability to read, understand, interpret, explain, and strictly apply applicable laws, ordinances, policies, and regulations
Work requires the ability to perform general math calculations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
Work requires the ability to prepare and write clear and concise records, reports, correspondence, and other written materials as required
Implement emergency procedures when appropriate or as directed. Serve independently with little or no supervision and be qualified to carry and use chemical agents, restraints, batons, and other non-lethal defensive weapons. Skill in neutralizing and de-escalating threats. Skill in exercising sound judgment within general policy guidelines
Does not involve directing the work of others
Within this job, the employee normally performs the duty assignment within broad parameters defined by general organizational requirements and accepted practices. Total end results determine the effectiveness of job performance
Provide information to customers and the general public
Forward employee and citizen complaints regarding security services to local supervisory personnel for investigation and resolution. May be required to serve as a lead officer at a post, serve independently with little or no direct supervision, and be qualified to carry and use chemical agents, restraints, batons, and other non-lethal defensive weapons. The employee must maintain regular attendance. Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner
