If you enjoy making the most of your time off from work, you will love this job because you will have two weeks off for every two weeks you work. Imagine making a full-time salary ($63,840 - $68,400) and only working six months out of the year. Most people work a full year for one two-week vacation.
If you also love the outdoors, Kotzebue is about as remote as you can get in the USA and still consider yourself in civilization. Hunting, fishing, kayaking, hiking, and exploring wild Alaska are available on your time off.
There is no requirement to be an Alaska resident. Many of our Police Officers and Corrections Officers live in the lower 48 of the USA and commute to and from work.
Your Job duties are listed below. No experience necessary as you will receive OJT and we will pay for you to attend the Alaska Corrections Training Academy in Palmer Alaska.
Perform work assignments under general instructions and supervision of the Jail Sergeant or other superior officers as assigned. Receive and dispatch calls, emergencies, alarms, police, fire, general messages, and record information carefully and accurately. Manage the operation of the detention facility; maintain the safety and security of detainees; maintain records; take and develop mug shots; maintain supplies and laundry; supervise cleaning of quarters; enforce jail regulations; render first aid. Be aware of the health of prisoners, administer prescribed medicines and arrange for medical care as needed. Perform work in accordance with departmental regulations and procedures prescribed by superior officers, and State of Alaska Community Jail Standards. Act without direct supervision and exercise independent discretion. The Jail Sergeant/Superintendent reviews work through personal inspection, check of reports and records, and general appraisal of the effectiveness of the employee.
Ability to type 30 words per minute.
Ability to remain calm under emergency conditions, while exercising sound judgement.
Ability to follow orders.
No Felony convictions and no Misdemeanor Domestic Violence / Assault convictions.
Must have a current state issued driver's license. (Any state in the USA).
Applicant must meet the minimum standards for Municipal Corrections Officer as set out in Alaska Administrative Code, 13 AAC 85.215.
Must be able to obtain and maintain an Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN) security clearance.
