DEPARTMENT PURPOSE: The Marketing and Communications department collaborates with internal and external partners to provide expertise and strategic, integrated marketing and communication services to achieve the OSU Foundation's mission of excellence.
PRIMARY PURPOSE: As a member of the Creative Services team within the Marketing and Communications department, the Multimedia Designer, under the direction of the Senior Director of Creative Services, will serve as the primary designer for the OSU Foundation’s various digital engagement efforts.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Multimedia Designer will conceptualize, design, edit and produce a variety of multimedia-focused projects, such as social media graphics, digital ads, motion graphics/animations, and videos. The primary task of this position is to create content that enhances the OSU donor digital engagement experience by inspiring and stewarding their philanthropy to OSU. To this end, the Multimedia Designer will collaborate with the Strategic Engagement team (Annual Giving, Donor Relations, and Marketing and Communications), as well as other internal partners to create work that complements the Foundation’s overall engagement and branding strategies. When necessary, this position will work with campus partners to ensure OSU donor digital engagement is consistent and amplified across all channels. Photography and static graphic design duties are also a smaller part of this role.

 

KEY AREAS OF FOCUS:

Video Production-

  • Charged with storytelling, particularly donor and student stories, through the use of videos
  • Multimedia Designer will be responsible for all aspects of video production, which requires strong knowledge of proper video setup, including lighting and microphone placement, and video editing
  • Will work with the Marketing and Communications team, particularly with staff charged with social media and website strategy, to enhance the Foundation’s digital presence with videos produced specifically for social media, digital advertising and OSUgiving.com website efforts
  • Will be charged with recording and editing audio
  • To accomplish these video production assignments, the Multimedia Designer will use the team’s Canon Digital SLR cameras for filming and will need to possess proficiencies in Adobe Audition and Adobe Premier, and preferably experience using Adobe Rush as well


Motion Graphic Design-

  • Create motion graphics for various campaigns that complement and enhance our digital engagement strategy — graphics will be primarily utilized on social media and digital advertising platforms
  • Partner closely with Communications team to enhance social media engagement strategies
  • Multimedia Designer will need a strong knowledge of Adobe After Effects, and preferably with Adobe Animate as well, to create motion graphics


Photography-

  • When necessary, this position will help with events photography and staging photos for editorial uses
  • Designer will use the team’s Canon Digital SLR camera for all photography work
  • Multimedia Designer will utilize Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom to edit photos


Graphic Design-

  • When necessary, this position will also be charged with creating static graphics for video and digital uses that fit within branding guidelines and complement engagement strategies
  • Designer will need a working knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud apps, including Illustrator, InDesign and Acrobat, to complete these tasks


JOB COMPETENCIES & EXPERIENCE:

Education & Certifications-

  • Possess a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in graphic design, multimedia design, videography or closely related field.

Experience and Skills-

  • Possess 2-3 years of experience in multimedia and video production and/or graphic design
  • Proficiency with and knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Audition, Adobe After Effects, Adobe Premier and Adobe Photoshop is required
  • A working knowledge of the remaining Adobe Creative Suite, which includes InDesign, Illustrator, Lightroom and Acrobat Pro is preferred
  • Creative, detail-oriented, flexible, highly organized, effective communicator, energetic person who welcomes change in their work activities
  • Proven sense of humor and ability to have fun

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must use a computer terminal and view a computer screen for extended periods of time. Must talk in person or by phone (frequently and sometimes for extended periods) to people on campus and across the country.  Must constantly use visual acuity to check printed and designed materials of various types. Must be able to navigate within the OSU Foundation. Typical office working conditions.
