About the Position

Career Opportunity
The City of Las Vegas is accepting applications for Multimedia Content Creator. This position creates video content in support of the city's public information program and marketing initiatives for a variety of city of Las Vegas communication platforms, including YouTube, social media, government access television, blogs, email marketing campaigns and more.


Ideal Candidate
The Department of Communications is seeking a Multimedia Content Creator. The ideal candidate for this role has a proven track record in producing live broadcasts, broadcast programming, or on other platforms apart from television. Experience producing, writing or presenting programming is preferred. To be successful as a Multimedia Content Creator you must have superior organizational skills, and experience working with diverse internal and external stakeholders and leadership teams.

Supervision Received and Exercised

Receives direction from the management staff of the Office of Communications.


EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Essential Functions:


  1. Create programming and videos through strategic storytelling for a variety of the city's communications channels including KCLV Channel 2 television, YouTube, social media, the city's website, streaming platforms, blogs and other digital platforms; maintain the confidentiality of all information handled in the course of business. Develop content that drives strategic goals such as increase video views, web traffic and social media engagement, and encourages viewers to regularly visit and rely on digital content as a key source of information about the city of Las Vegas. Shoot and edit short-form videos on social media platforms natively.
  2. Plan, develop, produce, coordinate, host and write/voice original content, including videos and studio productions; work with departments to develop content for internal and external audiences on a variety of the city's digital channels.
  3. Use social media channels, e-newsletters and other digital tools to engage with the community and increase video views; monitor social media and trending digital content to create videos that increase views to digital platforms and audiences and ensure content is constantly evolving.
  4. Use search engine optimization (SEO) techniques to increase unique visitors and video views on YouTube and other digital platforms.
  5. Coordinate with other department content staff to facilitate the development of Multimedia Content for digital platforms, including video, audio, still photos and blogs.
  6. Actively participate in creative content meetings, helping to create strategies to identify and to reach target audiences and to increase video views across a variety of digital platforms.
  7. Serve as the lead for assigned projects and productions to ensure deadlines are met.
  8. Collaborate with other department staff on a project basis; oversee format and production consistency.
  9. Gather information through research and interviewing; compile information; present technical or complex subject matter in a clear, concise presentation for public consumption to a wide variety of audiences on a variety of digital platforms.
  10. Serve as the host of programs or segments on television and/or digital channels, including for other government agencies when requested.
  11. May be required to respond to breaking news during evenings or weekends.
  12. Interact and work closely with all levels of city staff, including upper management, and City Council members, in order to create content that meets their needs.


Marginal Functions:


  1. Writing for digital platforms.
  2. Assist with the development of the department's annual budget.
  3. Stay abreast of new trends and innovations in the public education/government (PEG) access television industry and other digital platforms.
  4. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Experience and Training Requirements

Experience:

Two years of increasingly responsible experience writing and producing a variety of content and videos in one or more of the following, or a closely related field, depending on assignment: YouTube, government access television; broadcasting; television news programming; public affairs; journalism; communications; media coverage, or social media. Experience in these fields within a local government environment is desirable.

Training:


Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major in broadcast journalism, television production, communications or a closely related field.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of:


Techniques and practices of creating videos for a variety of platforms including television, YouTube, social media and other digital platforms.

Techniques for handling highly confidential and sensitive information.

Techniques and accepted practices of news gathering, writing and producing on a variety of platforms.

Online shooting and editing tools.

English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation.

Pertinent federal, state and local laws, policies and regulations.

Creating videos for television, social media and other digital platforms.

Techniques of script writing.

How to use and update social media platforms, including e-newsletters.

Modern office procedures, methods and computer software and hardware.

Advanced principles and practices of record keeping.

Interrelationships of local, regional and state governments.

Operations, services and activities of broadcast or government access cable television station, and/or broadcast television station, including programming.

Social media strategies and channels.
