Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide language acquisition services to ML students in grades 3-12, providing at a minimum 30 minutes per day, 4 days per week
- Build strong relationships with ML students and families and advocate for their needs
- Evaluate the language needs of students whose families speak a language other than English at home and recommend appropriate language support
- Progress monitor ML students' language goals as stated on their ILPs (Individualized Learning Plans)
- Participate in ongoing professional development including ML team meetings through WVEC
- Administer the WIDA ACCESS test annually to all ML students
- Meet and confer with staff members who have ML students in their classroom to plan and schedule lessons promoting language learning, following approved curricula
- Complete assessments, reports, planning, and conferences with students, staff, and families within appropriate timelines
- Ensure proper implementation of ILPs
- Maintain accurate and complete ML cumulative files, including writing and updating all ILPs for students on their caseload, as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations
- Perform morning/afternoon duties, such as assisting in hall and cafeteria monitoring, and bus loading and unloading
- Other duties as assigned.
SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Indiana ENL (English as a New Language) Teaching License or progressing toward ENL licensure and meeting the EL TOR rubric requirements (Required)
- Bachelor’s degree (Required)
- Pass a criminal background check (Required)
- The ability to develop caring relationships with students and families
- Experience in analyzing student data and using data to inform instruction
- Possess strong knowledge and passion for content areas: Language Acquisition, English/Language Arts, Mathematics, and Phonics.
- Excellent communication, superior listening skills, organizational skills, and decision-making ability
