Job description

Operates radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment to perform radiographs as requested by physicians. Adjusts technical factors in proportion to patient and body part being examined while minimizing radiation. Follows radiation safety practices. Assumes temporary responsibility for the patient in x-ray. Operates portable equipment, operates C-arm, transports patients, uses the hospital computer system and PACS system. and performs clerical tasks. Performs services meeting the psycho-social needs of the population being serve. May also perform CT scan, Mammography, MRI, or Ultrasound duties and receiving advanced certification in selected areas through the ARRT, ARDMS or other governing bodies.


  • Quality Assurance/Control- Assists with quality control/assurance programs. Participates in quality control projects as needed.
  • MRI- Ability to recognize abnormal findings and obtain additional sequences images to show pathology and may require use of contrast. Have the ability to acquire post pocessig images for additional diagnostic information.
  • Radiographs- Sets up techniques, prepares identification, positions patient, determines exposure, adjusts equipment following departmental procedures (1) Reviews and evaluates images to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes.
  • Radiation Safety- Understands and practices radiation safety measures and protection devices to comply with regulations and to ensure safety of patients and staff.
  • Examinations Rooms- Sets up examination rooms ensuring that all necessary equipment is ready. Maintains orderliness And cleanliness of work area. Follows infection control practices.
  • Clerical duties- Assists with record keeping, answers phones, schedules appointments, and prepares changes.
  • Contrast Media- Assists Radiologist in administering (1) Monitors patient conditions and reactions, reporting abnormal signs to Radiologist or ED. Prepares and administers oral contrast to patients per department protocol.
  • Training- Must be competent to instruct fellow technologist in the art of their working modalities.
  • Mammography- Operates equipment as directed. Maintains CME credits as mandated by MQSA. Adjusts techniques and equipment to achieve the highest quality images
  • CT Scans- Performs the necessary clerical work related to obtaining previous reports or scans and other diagnostic information in its proper order for the physician's interpretation.
  • Assessment- Meets the psycho-social needs of the patients being served. Demonstrates competency in the delivery of patient care in a manner that is appropriate to the patient's age, physical ability and intellectual development. Demonstrates proficiency in adapting care to meet the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations.
  • MRI- Review and evaluate computer generated information to determine if images are satisfactory for diagnostic purposes. Use safety measures and protection devices to ensure safety of patients and staff.
  • Ultrasound judgement- Uses independent judgement during the sonographic exam to accurately differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
  • Sterile Techniques-Practices when required by procedure.
  • Patients- Transports patients to examination room. Prepares and maintains Room. Transports patients to other area of hospital.
  • MRI- Operates magnetic resonance imaging equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes. Explains procedure to patient, position and immobilize patient on exam table and observe during scan under direction of physician.
  • Ultrasound- Performs clinical assessment and diagnostic sonography examinations. Uses cognitive sonographic skills to identify, record, and adapt procedures as appropriate to anatomical, pathological, diagnostic information and images.
  • Patient Care- Explains procedures and observes patients to ensure safety and comfort during exam. Provide assistance with such tasks as dressing and changing to seriously ill, injured or disabled patients. Coordinates with other staff to assure appropriate patient care is provided.
  • Ultrasound- Analyses sonograms, synthesizes sonographic information and medical history, and communicates findings to the appropriate physician. Will prepare preliminary reports and contacts referring physician when required, according to established procedures.
  • Equipment: Reports any hazardous conditions or equipment breakdowns to the responsible supervisor.
  • CT Scan- Operate the CT scanner to demonstate anatomical areas as ordered/directed according to established practices and procedures. Must understand cross sectional anatomy. Demonstrates good judgement in evaluating the diagnostic studies for quality and diagnosis.
  • Computer System- Follows department and hospital protocols for use of the PACS sytem and the hospital computer system.
  • CT Scans- Demonstrates ingenuity and initiative with various technical procedures and equipment operation on an individual patient basis to provide the highest quality examination with the diagnostic equipment available. Maintains a skill level and working knowledge applicable to CT scanning technology with specific references to cross-sectional anatomy, medical and surgical diseases, and scientific principles as applied to CT.
  • MRI- Patient Safety- Follow safe MRI practices for patients. Review the screening forms with patients to ensure they are safe to have an MRI. Follow the two patient identifier to ensure the correct patient is being scanned. Keeps monitoring patients for comfort and know how to use patient immobility techniques.

Required:

  • Completion of formal Radiological Technology training in an AMA approved school.
  • One to two years of practical experience in a hospital setting. 
  • Advanced training in Mammo / CT / Bone Density or Ultrasound

Preffered:

  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Health Science.
