Work Schedule: Full Time, 4x10hr Evening Shifts, Rotating weekend and weekday on-call responsibilities.

The MRI technologist performs and assists with diagnostic MRI applications. To use technology to create high definition, three-dimensional pictures of organs and tissues inside the body that will allow physicians to diagnose patients.

Responsibilities:
Essential Job Functions
Quality & Safety
  • Follows manufacture's recommendations for quality control of imaging equipment.
  • Practices appropriate communication skills to the patient to enhance the quality and timeliness of the performed exam.
  • Adjust communication style to age and comprehension of the patient to ensure high quality images and exams.
  • Understands and implements the appropriate computer processes to optimize image and exam quality.
  • Ability to apply clinical imaging protocols and positioning techniques specific to the pediatric patient.
  • Regularly evaluates patient positioning and image quality during exam to ensure proper technique is applied per Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) department standards.
  • Maintains applicable logs and required documentation as it relates to policy and procedure.
  • For MJE: Uses Cerner, Powerscribe, and PACS consistently and effectively to document and complete all tasks.
  • For NMH: Uses Cerner to exam manage and film track consistently and effectively to eliminate rework.
  • Participates in image quality and process improvement initiatives routinely.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment at all times.
  • Routinely screens the patient for safety precautions, educates them on the exam to be performed, and documents in the electronic medical record (EMR) or Radiology Information System (RIS).
  • Routinely educates and screens all ancillary staff and visitors regarding the magnet environment and applies appropriate policy and procedure.
  • Provides timely response to a call or page from the Hospital regarding an emergency exam when on active on-call status.
  • Adheres to the department on-call policy and uses appropriate communication to ancillary staff and the Radiologist during the on-call process.
  • Uses and understands the process and procedure for transmitting images for the Teleradiology services.

Heightened Focus on Efficiency
  • Understands and implements the most appropriate imaging protocol for the ordered exam to demonstrate the anatomy and pathology to the Radiologist's expectation.
  • Communicates pertinent information to the Radiologist for assisting with appropriate patient and protocol management.
  • Applies accurate positioning techniques to ensure appropriate visualization of anatomical structures for diagnostic interpretation by the Radiologist.
  • Actively uses continuing education opportunities to enhance clinical competency.
  • Understands and performs the appropriate image quality assurance protocol, troubleshoot problems, and rectify quality issues.
  • Routinely communicates with Supervisor on matters that include disruption of normal workflow, personnel issues, and patient concerns or complaints.
  • Understands, promotes, and supports the department scheduling and accessibility goals as it relates to patients and referring Physicians.
  • Maintains a clean and safe work environment at all times.
  • Routinely screens the patient for safety precautions, educates them on the exam to be performed, and documents in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Radiology Information System (RIS) as needed.
  • Routinely educates and screens all ancillary staff and visitors regarding the magnet environment and applies appropriate policy and procedure.
  • Demonstrates responsiveness and timely responses in a timely manner to added assignments.
  • Voluntarily assists with filling in for other department roles as needed.
  • Position requires flexibility to accommodate fluctuation in daily schedule, including but not limited to overtime, irregular hours, and on-call responsibilities.
  • Uses Kronos consistently and effectively.

For MJE: Clinical Enrichment
  • Provides and monitors "on the job training" per Methodist College Standards.
  • Maintains professional and courteous relationship with students and instructors.
  • Provides leadership and guidance for students' education clinical experience as appropriate.

Job Requirements
Education
  • Graduate from an approved American Medical Association (AMA) school of Radiologic Technology required.

Experience
  • Prior Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) experience preferred.
  • For MJE: Completion of a MRI Externship through an approved MRI school required.
  • For NMH:
    • 1 year of prior experience working as a CAT Scan Technologist, or;
    • Completion of a MRI Externship through an approved MRI school, or;
    • Board certified as a Radiologic Technologist, (ARRT) required.

License/Certifications
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (RT.R.ARRT) certification in Radiography required.
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (RT.MR.ARRT) registered in Magnetic Resonance Imaging required.
    • Technologists who have completed clinical training and are Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) board eligible will be considered with the understanding that registry will be passed within 12 months, or
    • New technologists who require clinical training to become Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) board eligible will be considered with the understanding that the advanced board certification is required within 12 months at the completion of clinical training.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.

Skills/Knowledge/Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills necessary to communicate effectively with hospital personnel, patients, co-workers, and the public.
  • Ability to perform numerous tasks at once, prioritize workload and organize workflow.
  • Possess a working knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy, and understand the basis of computer operation.
  • Knowledge of MRI principles and concepts.
  • Knowledge of other modalities or willing to gain knowledge of other modalities as requested for the potential of cross-training opportunities.
  • Proficient with working with patients of all ages (infants, pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and elderly).
  • For MJE: Required to perform venipuncture for injections and IV management for power injector use.
  • For NMH: Ability to perform POCT and venipuncture/IV insertion for purposes of contrast administration under the direction of a radiologist as needed.
