Job description

UES Inc., an Eqlipse company, is seeking a Physicist with expertise in MRI imaging, to support ongoing human subjects-based research. This position will support the Applied Cognitive Neuroscience branch within the 711th Human Performance Wing at AFRL.


The candidate should have first-hand experience in MRI Physics, pulse sequence programming, and image reconstruction algorithms, and be able to lead and/or support image analysis for AFRL research. The incumbent will work closely with research scientists and MRI subject to ensure quality and consistency of the MR system, assist in imaging for MRI-based research, using pre-existing equipment (i.e. 3T Phillips MRI). Training additional operators and troubleshooting equipment issues will be essential duties for a successful candidate.

  • Full-Time or Part-Time opportunity available

  • Ph.D. in Biomedical engineering, Medical/Health Physics, computer science, or related scientific field.
  • Experience with MRI research and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with relevant systems, such as Philips MRI, is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills, as demonstrated through experience and peer-reviewed research, is required.
  • Expertise with FSL, SPM, AFNI, and MATLAB programs is preferred.
  • Install and implement new MR sequences and facilitate successful user-initiated research.
  • Provide support and problem-solving services to MRI research projects. Monitor MRI system for critical errors and coordinate service as needed, and communicate technical issues promptly. Design and oversee quality assurance programs and schedule any needed repairs.
  • Certifications (i.e American Board of Radiology in Diagnostic Medical Physics or the American Board of Medical Physics in Magnetic Resonance Imaging Physics) is highly preferred.
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills, and ability to work within a team-base environment, are required.
