Job Location: This position will be located at OA Garage - 705 Missouri Blvd., Jefferson City, MO.

What you will do:
This is skilled mechanical work in the diagnosis, maintenance, and repair of Motor Vehicle and/or automotive body and paint repair.
  • Operates testing equipment to diagnosis mechanical, electrical, cooling, heating, air conditioning, and hydraulic system problems.
  • Repairs, replaces, and maintains engines, transmissions, pumps, starters, valves, gaskets, rings, seals electrical systems components, brakes, ball joints, wheel bearings, mufflers and exhaust systems, shock absorbers, struts, air conditioners, tires, and related equipment.
  • Performs preventive maintenance services to vehicles; check and change fluids and filters; rotate tires; adjusts and replaces belts, hoses, and valves; Inspect and repair fuel injection systems; and other related work.
  • Performs periodic inspections of Motor Vehicles; may perform state mandated safety inspections.
  • Repairs or replaces damaged fenders, panels, bumpers, and other vehicle body parts using air hammers, hand tools, and welding equipment.
  • Coaches and instructs work release offenders and advises staff or clients in the maintenance and repair of Motor Vehicles.
  • Maintains records of completed work orders, to include services and repairs to vehicles, and supplies/equipment ordered and used.
  • Performs test drives of vehicles to ensure problems are resolved.
  • May prep vehicles with necessary sanding, taping, and masking for bodywork.
  • Exercises independence in the performance of responsibilities; receives general administrative direction.

Key Skills:
  • Intermediate knowledge of diagnostic processes, practices, methods, and equipment of the automotive technician's trade.
  • Intermediate knowledge of repair and replacement methods, tools and equipment used in Motor Vehicle body shops.
  • Intermediate knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems of Motor Vehicles.
  • Intermediate knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with the automotive technician's trade.
  • Skill in the use of computerized automotive system diagnostic tools and repair manuals such as AllData, Indentifix, Michel, Motors, and Chilton.
  • Skill in the use and care of tools and equipment required for the maintenance and repairs of Motor Vehicles.
  • Ability to understand and keep abreast and follows industry standards and applicable government safety requirements.
  • Ability to routinely kneel, stoop, squat, crawl and climb to perform multiple tasks of the position.
  • Ability to lift up 75lbs.
  • Ability to instruct others in the maintenance and repair of Motor Vehicles.
  • Ability to maintain records.
  • Ability to work from specifications and follow instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to operate vehicle equipment safely e.g.: vehicle lifts, jacks, jack stands and air tools.
All you need for success:
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements (The following minimum qualifications will determine eligibility:
  • One or more years of experience as an Automotive Technician I. OR;
  • Four or more years of experience as an automotive repair technician/mechanic in a commercial automotive repair shop; and possession of a high school diploma or proof of high school equivalency; and a valid driver's license. OR;
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) or equivalent certification in a minimum of five (5) test areas, three (3) of which have been part of the Automotive & Light Truck series; and two years of experience as an automotive repair technician/mechanic in a commercial automotive repair shop. OR;
  • Graduation from a two-year accredited vocational or technical school automotive or collision repair course; and two years of experience as an automotive repair technician/mechanic in a commercial automotive repair shop.
