Job description

Organized, go-with-the-flow Nanny/Household Manager needed for 3 children
*Must be comfortable with management of schedules and children's school stuff virtually (e-mail, apps, etc.)

Location: Sparta, NJ

Schedule: Full time (35-45 hours/week) *With opportunities for optional additional overtime during particularly busy or school break weeks

Monday: 11am-7pm

Tuesday: 11am-7pmWednesday: 11am-7pm

Thursday: 11am-7pm

Friday: 11am-7pm
*Family is seeking the ability to start at 10am one day of the week

Length: Long term, minimum 2 year commitment

Start date: ASAP

Pay: $30-$35/hour, depending on experience

About the children:

  • Child A (2.5 years old): As mom described this beloved toddler she began fondly, laughing, with:“One of the most mischievous two year olds I’ve ever known; she needs eyes on her at all times.” This little person loves to dance and sing, LOVES music, and is very silly. She always wants to keep up with her older siblings, is very talkative, and enjoys being included with the big kids in the house. She is potty trained.
  • Child B (6 years old): This little boy has a lot of energy, and has been described by his kindergarten teacher as “the wiggliest kid in kindergarten.” He is very smart, likes to stay moving, is very athletic and talented in sports. He tends to get frustrated easily if something is challenging for him. Overall this little person is a”pretty easy going kid most of the time”.
  • Child C (8 years old):She is the classic oldest child; a leader who likes structure & clear expectations. This bright girl will test limits; is VERY inquisitive; will questions you/your motives, what are you thinking about and saying. She likes to instruct her younger siblings on what to do, and enjoys being in charge. GLUTEN FREE.

Ideal personality (of Nanny):

You are a warm, nurturing person who is capable of being playful and silly with the children while maintaining strong boundaries and organization. You would describe yourself as kind and and empathetic, and you are able to apply these qualities to your disciplining of the children when needed. You are comfortable encouraging the kids to do their homework and enforcing rules, while maintaining a sweet and silly attitude. You are someone who doesn’t get rattled by misbehaving, and can redirect/reinforce with a calm demeanor. You are excited about trying new things (gluten free crepes, for example), and are comfortable managing the unexpected things that arise in a busy household. You have a go-with-the-flow attitude when necessary, and are comfortable with the overall care of three children simultaneously.

Requirements:

  • Able to swim, willing to take lifeguard course paid for by family
  • Must be able to tolerate being around a 45 lb dog ie not allergic or afraid. You would not be responsible for care of the dog except on rare occasions, but must be able to oversee that youngest child
  • Must be technologically savvy, and comfortable using apps, monitoring e-mails related to the children, entering dates into a virtual calendar, and using websites to support children in homework
  • You must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record
  • Current on COVID and flu shots
  • Must be comfortable helping children with their homework (kindergarten and 2nd grade)

Responsibilities:

(from 11am-2pm, while the children are in school)

  • Organizing and maintaining toys and arts and crafts including supplies management and rotating of toys
  • Prepare dinner each night for all children
  • Prepare lunches and snacks for the next day for all children
  • Ensure backpacks are ready for the following school day, including
  • Pack bags for children in advance of (approximately) monthly travel of family
  • Prepare the ski gear and lunches every Friday for weekend ski trips saturday and sunday
  • Help to track household supplies (groceries, cleaning supplies, etc.) and adding to family shopping list as needed-
  • Order groceries from instacart and putting them away as needed (minimal in-person grocery shopping required)
  • Dishes (loading/unloading dish washer)·
  • Laundry for the children only
  • Keeping children’s rooms, play areas and common areas tidy and organized (kitchen should be kept clean when not in use)
  • Switching out clothing seasonally for children, donating clothes·
  • Tracking inventory of children and replacing as needed (ex: soccer socks, ballet clothes, swim supplies, drinks for sports, etc.)·
  • Anticipate events (ex: birthday parties) and get supplies needed for them in advance (ex: gifts for friends)·

(from 2:30pm onwards)

  • Loving, attentive and patient care of children
  • Comfortable managing children’s schedules
  • Transportation daily to and from classes and/or extracurricular activities·
  • Play outside with children (walks, trips to the playground, soccer, bike rides).
  • Take children to appointments as needed
  • Engage baby in learning and exploration via books, stories, art, songs and play
  • Plan and participate in age-appropriate activities
  • Foster confidence via nurturing care
  • Spend time outdoors when weather permits (playing in the yard, going on stroller walks around the neighborhood)
  • Serve children healthy, well rounded meals
  • Ensure that children complete all homework (they get quite a bit each day)
  • Plan and supervise playdates for the children

Important to note:

  • Due to celiac disease in the family, minimal wheat/gluten allowed in the house to be stored and prepared separately from gluten free foods
  • Paid overnights and occasional travel will be a part of the job

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $30.00 - $35.00 per hour
