Crystal Dynamics is seeking a Mocap Stage Technician to join our talented team of developers and closely work with Animation! As a Mocap Stage Technician who focuses on data capture and processing, you will help run stage operations and work with cross-functional teams to ensure a seamless pipeline of mocap data. In this role, you will operate mocap shoots to support the Animation Director and ensure the seamless integration of motion data prepared for the Animation Team. Outside of shoot days, you will have the chance to help core gameplay with animation content creation and implementation into the game engine.
As a Motion Capture Stage Technician, you will...
- Oversee Motion Capture system setup, calibration, and operation during shooting
- Ensure high quality data capture and meeting data quality expectations during shoots
- Set up new character rigs for pre-viz, real-time, and post processing
- Collaborate closely with the Animation Director to support mocap shoots, ensuring the seamless integration of motion data into gameplay systems
- Interface directly with Actor/Stunt talent throughout capture sessions
- Consistently evaluate the virtual production needs and standards for current and future projects
- Ensure the documentation standards and approach plans are updated and maintained
- Prepare for production shoots, including scene assembly and asset setup, including marking up actors and/or props
- Maintain markers and tracking objects for use on cameras, props, occasionally actors, and for the virtual set environment
As a Motion Capture Stage Technician, you must have...
- Understanding of pipelines and process with Stage Operations and quality output
- Experience working with mocap software to ensure seamless integration of data captured during mocap shoots
- Familiarity of how animation integrates into Unreal or similar proprietary engine
- Experience partnering with production for production planning, scheduling, and associated tools (e.g, Jira)
- Able to diagnose and assist in the resolution of issues in a complex and integrated system of computers, video recording systems, software, and other sensor driven systems
- Proficient in the following: Motion Builder, Maya, and real-time game engines/editors
- Ability to work onsite in San Mateo is required during mocap shoots and may be needed additional days, as needed.

- Expertise with Unreal Engine (candidates with experience in other game engines will be considered if they meet or exceed the remaining requirements)
