Mortgage Loan Underwriter

Join Kellogg Community Credit Union as a Mortgage Loan Underwriter out of our Second Street branch in Battle Creek!
The Mortgage Loan Underwriter role is a critical position to the organization. The Mortgage Loan Underwriter helps the Credit Union grow the Mortgage Loan portfolio by exercising sound judgement based on detailed analysis and supporting the Mortgage Loan Originators.
Responsibilities:

• Review and verify loan application and supporting documentation.
• Analyzing loan risk and requesting additional information as necessary.
• Determine eligibility of loan applications for sale on the secondary market including but not limited to income and asset verification, employment verification, appraisal and title review.
• Provides conditions to loan originators, when applicable.
• Document and effectively communicate reasons for approval or denial of loan application.
• Works with team members and third parties to build and foster relationships.
• Reviews and keeps current with applicable state, federal and Credit Union specific guidelines as they pertain to the mortgage industry.
• Performs other job duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Three to Five years similar or related experience
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Strong soft skills
• Strong organization skills and ability to prioritize
• Detail Oriented with strong data analysis skills
• Secondary Market Underwriting experience (FNMA, FHLMC, MSHDA, RD, PMI)
• Strong computer skills including the Microsoft Suite
• Ability to resolve interpersonal conflict and miscommunications

The ideal candidate will have strong availability Monday - Friday 8:30am to 5:30pm. This position is located in Battle Creek, Michigan. This position is eligible for hybrid work after a training period.
