Position Overview:
The Mortgage Loan Officer (MLO) educates, advises and guides potential borrowers through the loan application process. Proactively solicits new residential mortgage business and participates in cross-selling Frontier's other beneficial products and services to help our members achieve financial success. Continually identifies, develops and maintains a quality network of business relationships including real estate professionals, builders, internal staff and member referrals that serve as a recurring source of new and additional mortgage lending opportunities. Participates in related community efforts. The MLO is responsible for assisting in attaining other established organizational and departmental goals, provides leadership, training and support to other Loan Officers and staff members. Always provides the highest level of member service.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for Mortgage Loans, including origination, title searches, appraisals, credit reports, and flood search, etc. Follows through inception period to closing after all supporting documents have been legally filed and returned to the Credit Union. Follows up on mortgages, trust deeds and title policies.
- Meets with members to obtain information for Mortgage Loan applications and to answer questions about the process.
- Interviews prospective borrowers in order to understand needs and determine the most beneficial products and services.
- Explains different types of loans and credit options that are available, as well as product pricing and the terms of services.
- Enters borrow information into lending system, provides borrower with proper disclosures and additional required information.
- Analyzes members' financial status, credit, and property evaluations to determine feasibility of granting loans.
- Reviews members' credit history, financial statements, and other applicable information to ensure it adequately supports loan request.
- Computes payment schedules and explains interest calculations, terms and payments to others as needed.
- Submits all loan applications for verification and recommendation to underwriters or management, in accordance with Credit Union lending policy.
- Assists with the completion of initial disclosures and ensures that the disclosures are reviewed with the borrower(s), properly signed, and properly delivered to processing
- Maintains a thorough knowledge of all lending policies and procedures.
- Actively participates in the solicitation of loan business and cross-selling products to members in person or by phone; within and outside of standard credit union operating hours.
- Develops and maintains excellent internal relationships and provides team members with basic mortgage understanding and effective techniques to make mortgage referrals.
- Handles member complaints and takes appropriate action to resolve them.
- Ensures loan documents are complete and accurate and funding is executed in accordance to policy.
- Remains alert to new loans and other financial services and products to benefit members.
- Researches and suggests process improvements, new products and loans, and income generating opportunities for the Credit Union.
- Maintains required records and reports in an accurate and timely manner and ensures lending decisions are properly documented.
- Provides exceptional internal and external member service and responds to all member inquires and referrals in a timely manner.
- Attends mortgage closings whenever possible.
- Understands, applies, and complies with all Credit Union Policies and Procedures, State and Federal laws and regulations, and adheres to requirements set forth by the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA).
- Completes other assigned duties commensurate with position.
Requirements
Qualifications/Skills:
- Associate Degree in Business or related field or equivalent combination of formal training and experience
- Three years of consumer lending/mortgage lending experience required
- Excellent interviewing, communication, and public relations skills
- Professional appearance and attitude
- Strong analytical and financial, and problem-solving skills
- Maintain proficiency in applicable software and demonstrates ability to learn and retain additional technological skills as required for the job
- Able to review, understand and navigate complex financial documents
- Operate a computer with proficiency of MS Office; Excellent knowledge of report software and processes
- Communicate with courtesy, tact, and diplomacy in person and over the phone
- Perform job functions independently with limited supervision; work effectively on own and as part of team
- Ability to read and carry out various written instructions and follow verbal directions
- Must remain composed in stressful, high-pressure situations. Calmly and professionally handle different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organization and demonstrate highest levels of member service
- Demonstrate extreme accuracy and quality, effectively handle multiple tasks and changing priorities, and exercise highest level of discretion on both internal and external matters
- Maintains reliable and timely attendance. Available to work the days and hours as dictated by business needs; includes morning and evening hours and may be in coordination with real estate agents, financial planners, and others from outside the workplace to attract new clients
- Must have reliable transportation to get to and from required business functions
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) prefered
Physical Requirements:
Bend, sit, or stand to perform primarily sedentary work with limited physical exertion; occasional lifting to 10 lbs. Operate routine office equipment including computer terminals, keyboards, telephones, copiers, and calculators. Work on computer for up to 8 hours per day. Some locations may require ability to climb or descend stairs with minimal assistance in emergency situations.
