The Monorail Mechanic will perform all interval and preventive maintenance on the California State Fair Monorail amusement ride; prepare the Monorail for successful inspection by the California Department of Industrial Relations/Division of Occupational Safety and Health/Amusement Ride and Tramway Unit; observe all safety protocols and report potential risks and hazards; diagnose issues with the Monorail and recommend viable repairs; provide accurate assessment of the Monorail status; anticipate and provide list of needed materials, parts, and supplies to allow adequate time for procurement and delivery.

Working Conditions

  • Requires working with and near fast-moving machinery and heavy motorized vehicles.
  • Requires working around high-voltage electricity.
  • Uses manual and electric tools.
  • Requires working with motor fluids, solvents, and cleaners.
  • Works at elevated heights.
  • May be required to work weekends, holidays, and irregular hours.
  • During annual State Fair operation, must be available to work long, irregular shifts.
  • Requires working in cold and rainy winter and unseasonably hot summer weather.
  • Requires prolonged periods of standing, sitting, kneeling, bending, lifting, physical endurance, and repetitive motion.
  • May be exposed to extreme temperatures, airborne dust, fumes, vapors, chemicals, medical waste and blood borne pathogen.

Desirable Qualifications In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:
  • Experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Experience in electrical contracting and/or engineering.
  • Knowledge of safe and proper electrified tram maintenance and operation.
  • Knowledge of programable Logic Controllers.
  • Knowledge of three phase electrical conduction and connections.
  • Knowledge of electrical motor and switchgear diagnosis and repair.
  • Experience working with high-voltage electricity, generators, and transfer switches.
  • During annual State Fair operation, mustbe available to work scheduled shift.
  • Dependability and reliability; excellent attendance.
  • Willingness to be a team player and do what is necessary to the benefit of Monorail operations.
  • Possession of a current mobile elevated work platform certification.
