Job description

The Center for Victims of Torture is excited to announce our search for a Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Coordinator who is responsible for coordinating and supporting monitoring and evaluation efforts for their assigned projects. This includes the design, development, and implementation of program Evaluation and Learning initiatives. The MEL coordinator will work on one or more projects that focus partially or entirely on the capacity development of staff / providers, organizations, and/or systems that serve survivors of torture, trauma, or human rights violations; or that defend human rights. The MEL Coordinator supports the needs of other staff in the Evaluation and Research Department.


Position Details:

  • Remote status: 100% remote
  • Full/part-time status: Full Time
  • Pay starts at: $50,000 for candidates located in the USA; candidates outside of the USA will be compensated at a rate that is competitive in their location.
  • Position is open to candidates who reside in and are eligible to work in the US and will not need CVT to sponsor them on a work visa, and candidates located in Ethiopia, Jordan, Kenya or Uganda who are authorized to work in the country in which they are located.

We are an international nonprofit dedicated to healing survivors of torture. We offer rehabilitation services to those who have been tortured, train partners around the world who can prevent and treat torture, and advocate for human rights and an end to torture. We are headquartered in Minnesota, and we have US offices in Georgia and DC, as well as offices in Africa and the Middle East.


Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Supportand conduct project performance monitoring and internal evaluation in alignment with MEL plans, quality standards and guidelines. Implement systems for collecting, maintaining, and analyzing data, and maintain those systems to ensure data quality, data protection, and adherence to MEL ethical standards. Consult with the appropriate stakeholders within the organization on approaches to evaluation, tools and indicators, and for review of major products/deliverables before dissemination.
  • Coordination: coordinate with various external and internal stakeholders to ensure smooth daily operations of the project related to MEL activities. Provide support for the evaluation work of other Evaluation and Research staff on assigned projects.
  • Learning: Utilize data to inform program reporting and development. Support and implement regular learning activities for the project team and partners. Respond to MEL related queries from project team and other stakeholders and advise program staff and leaders on the implications of MEL findings.
  • Strategy, Planning, and Coordination: Contribute to CVT’s overall evaluation strategies within relevant technical portfolios, and participate in project development and proposal writing team. Actively consider the needs of various stakeholders throughout all stages of the MEL process, including external partners and implement monitoring and evaluation plans accordingly. Contribute to CVT’s cross departmental working groups and contribute to build a cultural of inclusion and belonging within the Evaluation and research department and CVT generally. Document all tools, decisions and analyses in full and collaborate with program management, technical staff, and partners.
  • Reporting: Contribute to regular donor and/or CVT briefs, and reports in alignment with organization needs, contracts, and/or cooperative agreements. Produce dissemination products for internal and external audiences.

Qualifications:

Required education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations

  • Bachelor’s degree in social science, statistics, data management, or related field, or similar relevant experience
  • At least 2 years of experience in monitoring, evaluation, and Learning (MEL) related to international development or humanitarian projects
  • Experience with research and/or evaluation methodologies, including quantitative and qualitative approaches to data collection and analysis
  • Experience developing data collection tools and processes
  • Experience working in international and intercultural settings

Preferred education, experience, certificates, licenses or registrations

  • A post-graduate degree in a social science or a related field, with an emphasis on rigorous Evaluation and research methods
  • Fluency in Spanish, French, or Arabic
  • Ability to produce high quality data visualizations for diverse audiences
  • Experience with project management, coordination, or monitoring software
  • Experience with remote data collection platforms (e.g., Kobo Toolbox, Alchemer)

Competencies (knowledge, skills and abilities)

  • Fluency in spoken and written English
  • Ability to work independently on assigned MEL coordination tasks
  • Ability to develop dissemination products for audiences with varying levels of familiarity with MEL concepts
  • Ability to work in Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Excellent skills in organization, attention to detail and time management (including the ability to meet deadlines)
  • Ability to develop and maintain professional, collaborative relationships including the ability to give, receive, and utilize substantive feedback about technical products
  • Commitment to engaging in human rights work, and diversity, equity and inclusion efforts within the organization

Work Environment (subject to change):

  • Typical office environment
  • Time spent on the computer is approximately 90%
  • Time spent in virtual meetings is approximately 50%
  • Travel in the US and internationally including to locations that may be remote and lacking in amenities, up to 5% time
