Job description

Position Summary

The Mold Repair Technician will be responsible for the changeover, repair and maintenance of injection molding tools, extrusion tooling and plant equipment within the department and Mold Repair area. This position will also monitor tooling inventory levels and area kanban.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

         Coordinate and perform mold changeovers and mold cleaning.

         Stock and organize all mold tooling.

         Troubleshoot molding and extrusion equipment, diagnose malfunctions and make the necessary repairs.

         Recommend improvements to tooling.

         Maintain documentation for GMP compliance to include, but not limited to: mold service reports, cavity and tooling location identification forms, and mold service computer updates.

         Interface with Production Supervisors, Engineering and Metrology associates to understand product inventories, meet customer needs and implement improvements.

         Work with Production Supervisors, Planning and the Molding department to understand work priorities and the impact on customer needs.

         Evaluate and place tooling orders through utilization and interpretation of blueprints.

         Perform machinist duties to facilitate repairs or complete project assignments.

         Support mold start-up duties to include mold frame installation and removal.

         Maintain concentrated mental and visual attention to perform inspections of mold tooling and plastic components using inspection tools and equipment.

         Responsible for workflow, production, training of new employees and answering job related questions.

         Maintain 5S standards in work area.

         Model company values and support strategic initiatives.

         Perform other related duties as assigned or required.

         This position is required to assure compliance of Company operations to all applicable laws, regulations and standards, good business practices and company documented procedures (including knowledge of all standards, government occupational health and environmental regulations and statutes related to the site).

         Engage others; promote and participate in Environmental, Health and Safety initiatives, focusing on continuous improvement.

Knowledge & Skills

         Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with tooling, plastic injection mold and silicone Mold Repair.

         Strong mechanical aptitude.

         Knowledge and understanding of Tool Room equipment to include (but not limited to) Milling machines, Lathes, EDM and surface grinding equipment.

         Ability to read and understand tooling drawings and blueprints.

         Demonstrated understanding of injection molding machines and the terminology, mechanics and functions of a mold.

         Basic understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and servo systems

         Ability to troubleshoot mechanical assemblies.

Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience 

         High School Diploma or equivalent required.

         Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.

         Post-secondary school technical training highly desirable.

         Three to five years of relevant experience in a plastic injection molding environment.

         Experience with micrometers, height gauges, size blocks, dial indicators, Vernier calipers and other instruments.

         Additional experience with toolmaking, tool repair and maintenance a strong plus

 

Work Environment

         Work involves use of manufacturing equipment or close proximity to equipment. May be exposed to biohazards and/or chemicals.

         Job duties may require working inside/outside injection molding machines and working on ladders.

         Work environment can range from clean room and proper gowning requirements to a production area that is open, potentially noisy, and with moving equipment. 

         Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs. and push/pull up to 80 lbs. 

         Recurring physical demands include standing, walking, stooping, crouching, climbing, bilateral motion involving hands, wrists, and upper body. 

         Concentrated visual attention to perform checks on products and components.

         Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time.
