Job description

Roles & Responsibilities:
Maintains, repairs, designs, builds and tests all electromechanical models, animatronics, and audio for LEGOLAND New York Resort to ensure the performance of the movements, sound and other effects at all times for highest guest satisfaction. Works alongside fellow Model Builders and Automation Technicians. Fabricates and repairs steel, armatures, supports and mounting hardware as needed for LEGO models. Maintains automated, timed and triggered effects utilizing air, low voltage motors, A/V equipment, lighting equipment and programmable logic controllers. Performs other manufacturing and maintenance functions within theme park and hotel and assists other Technical Services teams and employees as directed by Model Shop Manager.

Main Responsibilities:

1. Maintains all motion and audio effects for LEGO models throughout LEGOLAND New York Resort to ensure proper working condition at all times with minimal downtime to guests.
2. Completes daily pre-operational inspections, repairs, troubleshooting and adjustments to all animated parkwide and Miniland vehicles, water effects, air effects, motors, boat loops, and lighting and ensures that prioritized interactive effects are in proper working condition prior to park opening each day.
3. Completes walk through daily inspections in Miniland to ensure that all of the above are working properly during operational hours.
4. Responds to duty manager and radio calls during operational hours, expediting repairs to ensure guest and fellow Model Citizens’ safety and comfort at all times.
5. Brings any model/issue that cannot be resolved/repaired for park opening to Model Shop Manager’s attention.
6. Works on planned preventative maintenance alongside other Automation Technicians and under the direction of Model Shop Manager.
7. Operates machine tools, such as drill presses, power saws, grinders, lathes and mills, etc.
8. Meet the time, budget and quality directions given when repairing, designing and building animation for LEGO models.
9. Recognizes equipment that needs repair, replacing or adjusting.
10. Sources and requests parts and components for repairing and maintaining animated effects, as well as model armatures.
11. Ensures that all animation work areas are kept clean at all times.
12. Ensures internal compliance with maintenance, safety and security procedures by following established ASTM, NEC, state and local electrical codes and loss prevention guidelines.
13. Keeps informed and updated on modern techniques and technical methods by attending training as offered.
14. Maintains good working relationship with fellow Model Shop, Technical Services, and other departments’ MCs.
15. Follows LEGOLAND-established employee handbook and safety policies at all times.
16. Ensures the security and safety of all guests, models and effects by inspecting and preventing safety hazards on all rides and attractions.
17. Must be able to react under pressure or in an emergency in a calm and rational manner.
Qualifications & Experience:
Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
  • Requires experience in designing, building, installing, maintaining and servicing of electromechanical
    equipment, animatronics or automation equipment as a journeyman/technician.
  • Requires the ability to operate power tools, etc.
  • Must be able to design, build and maintain animatronics and automated effects for LEGO models run both by PLC and Show Controllers, have familiarity with ladder logic programming and Beckhoff brand PLC equipment and controls.
  • Must have understanding of the repair and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, pneumatic and A/V
    equipment.
  • Must be able to read blueprints pertaining to attraction infrastructure as well as electrical
    schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Ability to observe and remember details.
  • Ability to follow line manager’s directions effectively, and make quick and proper decisions.Professional LEGO Model Shop experience is a nice-to-have, not a requirement.
  • 3D printing experience is a nice-to-have, not a requirement.
  • CAD experience is a nice-to-have, not a requirement.

  • Ensures internal compliance with maintenance, safety and security procedures by
    following established ASTM (American Society for Testing & Materials
    International), NEC (National Electrical Code), NSF (National Science Foundation),
    OHSA as well as state and local codes.
  • Ensure full compliance of policies and procedures set forth within the Health, Safety
    & Security in the workplace and in line with the Merlin Entertainments Group
    Policy.
  • Understand risk assessments within own workplace and ensure reporting of any
    new risks to appropriate manager.
  • Compliance of safe working procedures for work activities within one’s job role, but
    cognizant of the effects on others prior to the activity/function.
  • In cases of incidents or accidents ensure appropriate reporting is done in a timely
    manner to the duty manager.

Pay Range: Compensation between USD $22.00/Hr.-USD $24.00/Hr.
