POSITION SUMMARY: Performs diagnostic MRI scanning procedures to produce consistently high-quality examinations in accordance with all applicable standards, regulations and licensing requirements.  Provides excellent patient care for all MRI scan procedures. Quickly and accurately completes all paperwork to include orders, lab work and authorization confirmation.  Consistently monitors and ensures the safety of patients as it relates to radiation and contrast dosing. They are responsible for visual inspection of the mobile coach upon arrival and just prior to departure to keep track of the support systems of the unit for optimal efficiency.

 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Examines orders and verifies the patient request for accuracy. Addresses any questionable orders with the Radiologist before performing the procedure(s). Operates MRI equipment to make quality images of designated portions of the body under the direct order of a physician and in accordance with MRI safety procedures 
  • Completes required paperwork/orders, email order request and authorization in a timely and accurate manner. Accurately records patient medical history on designated history form. Correlates test results and other lab data with exam being performed
  • Perform intravenous injections of GBCA when required
  • Monitor supplies/stock room/equipment.  Proactively initiates ordering or repairs, as needed. Maintain a clean and orderly work environment
  • Maintain all necessary QA documentation
  • Effectively communicates with Radiologist for protocols, as needed
  • Effectively communicates with PACS/IT for imaging distribution, as necessary
  • Operates x-ray equipment to make quality images of designated portions of the body under the direct order of a physician and in accordance with radiation safety procedures
  • Provide visual inspection of the mobile coach throughout the day and prior to leaving

Minimum Qualifications:

 

Education/Licensing/Certification: 

  • Associate Degree/Junior College in Radiologic Technology 
  • ARRT, MRI 
  • BLS

 

Experience (years and type): 

  • Less than 1 year of Radiology, MRI experience   

Knowledge and Skills:  

  • Must be able to perform procedures in accordance to the CR department protocols and standards. Operates MRI scanners, IV contrast injectors, O2 tanks. Computer literate and knowledgeable of CR programs
  • Must be up to date with local and federal regulations that apply to their licensure and role
  • Must be able to review the patient history and identify any allergies that could interfere with the patient's test
  • Must be able to communicate with the Radiologist or referring MD if a protocol needs to be obtained or a test needs to be altered
  • Must be able to report malfunctioning equipment to the Radiology engineer
  • Must be able to stand/walk for extended periods of time
  • Must have positive communication skills
  • Performs basic patient care functions and informs the Radiologist or nurse of any change in the patient's condition if needed
  • Must be competent to perform IVs
  • Excellent customer service skills 

Travel Required (% of time):

  • 0-25%

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • Primarily walking and sitting
  • Lifting 25-50lbs.
  • Shifts would be of varying durations of between 8-14 hours in a variety of potential mobile and fixed magnet locations, some of which will require extensive travel upwards of 2 hours driving each way. These locations may be CIS centers or customer mobile MRI accounts
  • Technologist will be involved in patient care including safety screening, scanning, and Intravenous injections of GBCAs. Technologist will be exposed to infectious diseases, contaminated equipment, cleaning chemicals, prolonged sitting, some heavy lifting.  Technologist will perform all duties on a Mobile MRI unit and must adhere to all the safety processes specific to the mobile unit in addition to all other standards of care. Technologist will be operating patient lifts and understand the onboard support system functions as well as basic troubleshooting techniques. Technologist will need to understand how these systems inter-connect and who to contact for problems or issues with these sub-systems
