Mobile Library Driver

The Simi Valley Mobile Library Driver is a full-time position with variable weekday or weekend hours, depending on community outreach events. The person in this role will deliver library materials in a cargo van to locations within city limits such as schools, senior living centers, parks, and community centers. In addition to delivering library materials, the Mobile Library Driver will work closely with other library staff and literacy staff to provide programming at the mobile sites.

The successful candidate must be able to fulfill the following duties:

• Provide excellent customer service and library orientation for community members who have never used the library.
• Work independently on a daily basis.
• Schedule Mobile Library stops at parks, school sites, and other community locations.
• Drive the Mobile Library van (Class C License) to locations; use ramp or lift to unload/reload carts for customer browsing; set up table(s) for program supplies and materials checkouts.
• Perform general library duties at mobile sites, such as checkouts, returns, customer requests, and renewals.
• Process library card applications for Mobile Library customers.
• Keep interior of the van clean and orderly.
• Sort and shelve library materials accurately according to the library's classification system.
• Collaborate with Librarians to deliver STEAM, homework help, adult literacy and other enriching programs to Mobile Library customers at their locations.
• Ensure the Mobile Library van is in good working order by performing daily inspections, and refueling the vehicle on regular basis.
• Keep records of Mobile Library customer interactions, program attendance, card registrations, and checkouts.
• Follow all legal and policy requirements related to patron privacy and custodianship of patron records.
• Know and understand the American Library Association's Library Bill of Rights, Freedom to Read Statement and Freedom to View Statement, recognizing that freedom of access is a fundamental tenet of a public library.

Requirements

• Completed some college.
• Possess a valid California Class C driver's license.
• Have a clean driving record.
• Must be a minimum of 21 years of age.
• Ability to lift up to 40 pounds, push and pull carts weighing up to 200 pounds.

Benefits

The pay rate for this full time (40 hours per week) benefitted position is $22 per hour. Mobile Library is a new service for Simi Valley residents, making it a great role for someone who enjoys a new challenges!
