Division: Intensive Care Services

Position: Mobile Crisis Response Peer Support Specialist

Qualifications: High School degree or equivalent

Summary of Position:

 As a Peer Support Specialist with lived experience with mental illness and/or substance use disorder, work as part of a two-person Mobile Crisis Response team by using your lived experience and (agency-provided) training to support community members experiencing a personal crisis related to mental health, substance use, or developmental disability concerns. In partnership with a mental health or substance use professional, this position conducts general outreach, supports crisis and risk assessments, solution focused interventions such as emotional de-escalation, coping skills coaching, safety planning, and develops follow up care plans. Duties include coordinating with internal and external supportive services and collaborating with peers and other crisis services team members to provide high quality, compassionate, trauma informed, and client centered care.

Essential Duties:

· Screen, triage, and respond to Mobile Crisis Response requests by adult community members experiencing a mental health, substance use, or developmental disability related crisis.

· Work collaboratively with a co-responding mental health or substance use professional to provide high quality Crisis Response services that are tailored to the needs of each person encountered.

· In community settings, assess and screen a person to determine level of crisis, presenting needs, and available support systems to determine appropriate interventions, coping skills, and resources.

· Intervene appropriately with solution focused problem-solving skills to support the process of resolving a crisis through demonstrating coping skills and contingency planning.

· Provide peer to Peer Support and follow up care using active and reflective listening skills to assess individual needs and triage a response plan that supports the individual’s ability to cope with difficult situations.

· Assist community members who are in crisis to access internal and external resources to be able to navigate current and future crisis.

· Encourage positive relationships with support systems such as family, positive peer groups, and/or faith-based communities that can offer support and follow up care.

· Participate in required training, supervision, meetings, and clinical oversight processes.

· Write timely documentation and complete all other related administrative tasks within required timeframes.

Qualifications:

· High School Diploma or equivalent.

· Lived experience in one of the following:

· A person who uses their lived experience of mental health or substance use recovery, plus skills learned in formal training, to support others in their own recovery processes.

· Or, a person with a family member who has mental health or substance use history and knowledge of the mental health care system from navigating it and supporting their family member.

· A valid driver’s license and comprehensive auto insurance must be always maintained. This position requires the ability to travel to the location where a person is experiencing the crisis.

· Ability to multi-task and feel comfortable engaging with people in frequently changing environments where the pace and intensity of someone’s needs are unclear.

· Ability to demonstrate effective engagement skills; inspire hope and promote recovery and resiliency.

· Proficient written and oral communication skills with the ability to accurately and professionally document work in an electronic medical records system.

· Ability to understand and support people experiencing a difficult life event or crisis with appropriate boundaries and some knowledge of trauma informed care practices.
