JOB TITLE: Mississippi Public Policy and Organizing Manager 

REPORTS TO: Mississippi State Director 

CLASSIFICATION: Exempt 

SALARY RANGE: $65,000 

LOCATION: Jackson, MS 

SUMMARY The Public Policy and Organizing Manager (PPOM) will collaborate with the Mississippi State Director to advance Planned Parenthood Southeast's mission by enhancing public and legislative support. The PPOM will play a pivotal role in safeguarding access to reproductive health care through strategic legislative engagement. Additionally, they will foster supporter and volunteer engagement through innovative campaigns aimed at reducing stigma and amplifying community empowerment. The PPOM will work alongside the Mississippi State Director and other stakeholders to achieve educational, political, and electoral objectives, including the election of legislators aligned with reproductive health care access.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Legislative Support
    • Act as a liaison to the Mississippi State Director during legislative sessions at the state capitol.
    • Facilitate access to proposed legislation and voting records, maintaining a comprehensive tracking database.
    • Attend committee hearings, providing detailed reports and assisting in witness and legislator preparation.
    • Develop and implement plans for "Pink Out the Halls," PPSEA's community lobbying initiative.
    • Prepare legislative briefings, session reports, and related presentations.
    • Conduct direct lobbying efforts with elected officials.
Represents PPSE in the Community
    • Serve as a representative of PPSE in coalitions and cultivate relationships with community groups.
    • Identify and engage key stakeholders in targeted communities.
External Communication
    • Draft supporter communications, including volunteer opportunities and advocacy alerts.
    • Develop engaging content for social media platforms.
Grassroots Organizing
    • Assist in implementing a statewide organizing plan for recruiting and retaining supporters, with a focus on specific communities.
    • Develop organizing strategies and objectives in collaboration with the Mississippi State Director.
    • Identify outreach opportunities and cultivate contacts in target communities.
    • Collaborate with Organizers to mobilize activists for various activities, including canvassing, phone banking, and legislative lobbying.
Data Management
    • Maintain accurate supporter records across applicable databases.
    • Ensure timely data entry and provide training on database utilization to staff and volunteers.
Planned Parenthood Southeast Advocates Duties
    • Identify electoral targets for GOTV (Get Out the Vote) and voter education and mobilization efforts.
    • Develop and execute plans for voter registration, GOTV, and voter education, including the creation of voter guides and Organizing outreach activities.
    • Provide support to the Action Fund board and assist in volunteer recruitment for PPSEA activities and campaigns.
Administrative Duties
    • Assist the Mississippi State Director in drafting grant reports, board reports, and strategic plan updates.
    • Track time and expenses for grant reporting and compliance purposes.
    • Supervise Organizers and interns, including creating work plans and coordinating training initiatives.
QUALIFICATIONS
    • Education
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required.

    • Experience
    • Preferably 3 years of experience in lobbying, political campaigns, or community organizing.
    • Demonstrated commitment to Planned Parenthood's mission.

    • Skills
    • Proficiency in Windows, Google suite, and database management.
    • Experience with VAN/VoterBuilder and EveryAction is advantageous.
    • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and written communication skills.

    • Physical Demands
    • Ability to engage in organizing activities such as tabling and canvassing.
    • Must possess a valid driver's license and access to a car for in-state travel.
    • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

    • Languages
    • Fluency in English required, proficiency in Spanish preferred.
