KVC Kansas represents one of the strongest and broadest child welfare and behavioral healthcare continuums in the nation. We are responsible for the care of all children who are served by the Kansas Department for Children and Families in the Kansas City Metro and East Regions. KVC is seeking a Missing Youth Specialist who will provide support and assistance to KVC's Permanency Department in their effort to locate Missing Youth. Due to the unique needs of the families we serve, this role does not have a predictable schedule. KVC staff have the flexibility to manage their own time to create a positive work-life balance, but there will be evening and weekend work required as well as significant travel time to visit families in their homes. The use of company fleet vehicles is available for company travel.
KVC's clientele represent diverse backgrounds and KVC is seeking to enhance and expand our diversity in order to better serve our clients.
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in a Social Services related field with actual licensure by the KS BSRB preferred. Applicants must also have a valid driver's license and auto insurance. Experience with children and families is preferred.
The duties and responsibilities of this position are as follows:
  • Provide support and oversight to permanency staff in their effort to locate Missing Youth
  • Conduct online and in-person searches in efforts to locate Missing Youth
  • Serve as a liaison between the organization and law enforcement and other various community agencies on Missing Youth cases as needed
  • Track and analyze data to identify trends associated with Missing Youth
  • Update DCF weekly on efforts made to locate Missing Youth
  • Utilize all appropriate means to locate Missing Youth (knocking on doors, drive through areas where youth was recently seen, search social media, etc.)
  • Assist in training staff on Missing Youth search efforts and identify tools that may help in finding Missing Youth
  • Research new search methods for finding Missing Youth or new programs for Family Finding
  • Complete assessments on youth returning from missing status
  • Provide Family Finding investigative efforts on cases as needed
  • Assist in training staff on Family Finding efforts and identify tools that may help in locating relatives
  • Understand the importance of relative connection and can appropriately advocate for children and families
  • Represent the agency in various professional and/or community groups
  • Complete all required paperwork and follow agency policies and procedures within timelines to ensure smooth paperwork flow
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled meetings as required
  • Acquire and develop resources to meet identified needs of clients and staff
  • Understand contract requirements and work to improve contract specific outcomes
