Department: Sports Medicine and Performance
Reports to: MiLB S&C Coordinator
Classification: Full-Time/Exempt
Summary/Objective:
The Houston Astros, LLC, are currently seeking a Minor Strength & Conditioning Coach to join the Sports Medicine & Performance department (SM&P) at one of our Minor League affiliates located in Corpus Christi, TX. This individual must demonstrate high physical preparation acumen as well as strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well within a team of practitioners.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

RESPONSIBILITIES include but are not limited to:
  • Design and implement strength and conditioning programs using a science and data-led approach
  • Collaborate with Player Development staff to effectively communicate player goals to individual athletes and stakeholders
  • Establish and execute testing and exercise protocols pertaining to performance and rehabilitation
  • Teach proper execution, techniques and safety for all lifts and movement drills
  • Coach sprint, deceleration, and multidirectional movement mechanics
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with physical therapists, dietitians, athletic trainers, mental health & performance providers, coaches, and athletes
  • Actively participate in continuing education and professional growth opportunities
  • Maintain gym and sports science equipment
  • Consistently report player progress and regression to stakeholders
  • Work with managers and player development staff to manage player load, maximize schedule efficiency, and optimize performance outcomes
  • Attend and participate in scheduled staff meetings
  • Must be flexible to work irregular hours, nights, and weekends with frequent travel
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Exercise Science or related field
  • Minimum two years of experience in a strength and conditioning-related role
  • Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) from the NSCA
  • Registered Strength and Conditioning Coach (RSCC) through the NSCA required for AA and AAA roles
  • CPR/AED certified
  • Master's degree in Exercise Science or related field is preferred
  • Fluency in Spanish if preferred
  • Experience coaching in a NCAA or professional team environment is preferred
  • Experience with objective diagnostic testing (i.e. force plates) is preferred
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills is preferred

Work Environment
This person is expected to be located in Corpus Christi, TX throughout the season and may be required to travel on occasion (e.g., Spring Training in West Palm Beach, FL). This job operates in an office, weight room, locker room and outside setting. Will function both indoors and outdoors.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and focused vision. This position may require the ability to lift and carry up to 100 lbs, the ability to stand for extended periods of time as well as bending, reaching, and throwing. The employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, handle equipment, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, communicate with others. The vision requirement includes the ability to instruct and review written and electronic materials in both digital and physical format. The employee must be able to transfer and move items for departmental needs. The employee must be able to adjust to changing work hours and locations as needed considering the strong focus on external communications and relationships.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Travel
Required to travel to West Palm Beach, FL for Spring Training and off-season program along with the affiliate team to all away series during the regular season and potential playoff games.
