Position Summary

Serves as a resource on night shift capable of operating multiple pieces of mining equipment and supporting mine development projects. Employee is responsible for maintaining compliance with the Mandatory Minimum Standards Required, within his/her sphere of influence. This may or may not include compliance with any air permits, waste water permits, storm water permits, or other rules as presented to the employee as requirements.

Must be available to work night shift.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

Purpose of this job is to be a versatile. Operator of multiple pieces of equipment and perform peripheral tasks that help night shift mining performance and improving the efficiency in the mine.
 Must be competent in the safe and efficient operation of the following:
1. Driving of 40 ton class haul truck by making approximately 25 trips per day into and out of the underground mine (depending on haul distance and down time) to remove and dump tons of marble/rock.
2. Operation of Large Front End Loader (6 yard class), both loading trucks underground and feeding the crusher system on the surface as well as the hydraulic excavator/breaker hammer & motor grader, water truck, etc.
3. Must be trained to operate Crushing System – be able to start/stop the system and prefer individual to attend Smoke School and become certified.
4. Cross trains and proficiently learn to operate other mining equipment which may include: Drill(s) – track and face, and Scalers.
 Inspects work areas at start of shift for safe conditions and advises Mine Mechanics and/or Mine Supervisor of maintenance problems and performs minor repairs as needed.
 Recommends to Mine Supervisor measures to improve methods for increased efficiency of mine operations and assists in problem solving in all areas of the mine.
 Assists in training of new employees and will perform other duties as assigned.
Major Challenges:
 Works throughout underground and surface areas. Previous underground experience preferred (experienced miner).
 Exposed to inclement weather, heat, cold, dark, noise, fumes, vibrations, moving equipment, grease, oil and generally dusty conditions.
 Drives/Operates heavy equipment on uneven/bumpy terrain, in a dark, confined underground mine environment. Uneven surface will likely cause full body vibration. Operates at a speed that is reasonable and prudent for the conditions while maintaining an efficient level of production.
 Lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing up and down ladders and stairs, on and off equipment, and occasionally works from an elevated platform.

Specialized/Technical Knowledge or Required Skills

High School diploma or GED equivalent required. Technical school a plus.
 Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience as an equipment operator or Technical mining school equivalent. Previous underground mine experience beneficial and preferred.
 Must be computer literate – basic skills including signing onto and off of computer to check Huber e-mail frequently/routinely and to take online safety classes (SkillSoft-type classes) and to complete annual open enrollment benefit process.
 Must be able to don a self-rescuer during time of emergency and/or assist others in the same.
 Good mechanical aptitude and ability to operate all types of equipment.
 Must be able to perform mathematical calculations which include the following: multiplication, addition, percentages (can be accomplished with the use of a calculator or manually computed).
 Must have good overall communication skills with employees at all levels of the organization and be able to communicate using a radio.

Must be able to read and comprehend company safety manual policies, SOP’s, MSDS, and various production schedules/ reports.
 Would be helpful (though not required) to be on the Mine Rescue team.
