Job Summary:

This position will be responsible for planning, design, project management and implementation of mining resources for both sand and gravel and hard rock operations.  This position will also encompass the regulatory aspect of aggregate production through proper permitting, environmental engineering, and regulatory compliance.  This position functions with a high degree of independence and will use extensive knowledge and expertise to direct major projects or provide technical expertise to a specific situation. 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • No direct reports.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Conduct field surveys and assessments.

·         Gather and compile field test data into design criteria (i.e., test holes, gradation, etc.)

·         Envision and develop multiple mining design scenarios within the parameters set forth by project sponsors, users, and management.

·         Prepare detailed plans, reports, specifications and guidelines outlining future development.

·         Formulate sequencing plans for short term, mid-term, and long-range mine advancement as well as end of mine life and residual value.

·         Develop drawings and submit for discussion with project sponsors and users.

·         Provide recommendations for processing equipment, equipment layouts, and other infrastructure.

·         Gathers all information and conducts appropriate discussion with project sponsors and users.

·         Establishes cost estimates and budgets for projects and design scenarios.

·         Determines broad project specifications including sizing, function, speed, etc.

·         Develop bid packages and make arrangements for contractors and vendors.

·         Establishes project schedule and coordinates resources both internally and externally.

·         Ability to manage a project from concept to completion.

·         Maintain knowledge and expertise on current rules, regulations and laws pertaining to mining.

·         Manage and organize all regulatory documents in a retrievable document filing system. 

·         Prepare administrative documentation for necessary permits and environmental regulations.

·         Oversee that proper testing and reporting are maintained at all applicable sites.

·         Perform duties of regulatory company representative with appropriate involvement of management, when appropriate.

·         Coordinate and meet with appropriate regulatory agencies as necessary to ensure proper compliance.

Required Skills/Abilities:

·         Proficiency with Microsoft Office software

·         Surveying exposure utilizing GPS and Drones

·         Effective communication and presentation skills

·         Time management and planning, as well as the ability to prioritize workload

·         Ability to maintain project management records on all projects (observation reports)

·         Remain current on new technologies and trends through continuing education and training

Education and Experience:

·         Bachelor of science degree in Mining or Civil Engineering (Mining preferred)

·         Minimum of 2-5 years’ experience preferably in open cut aggregate mining

·         Experience with Mine Planning software (Carlson Mine Planning software experience preferred)

·         AutoCAD knowledge including Civil and 3DMap

·         Ideal candidate will have aggregate processing experience and plant design knowledge

·         Ability to read and interpret documents such as plans, specifications, and company manuals

Work Environment:

·         Mostly office environment (90%)

·         Some field work in potentially loud and dirty environments (10%)

 Physical Requirements:

*         Ability to sit for extended periods of time
*         Ability to climb ladders and stairs, crouch in tight locations and exposure to heights
