JOB TITLE:Migrant Liaison
JOB SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Migrant Coordinator, serve as a liaison providing communication among Migrant Education, families and other agencies; provide supplementary academic services to migrant students, and monitor their academic achievement and social conditions.
REPORTS TO:
Assistant Superintendent
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
  • 181 work days contracted.
  • Hours may vary by annual program description.
  • Classified Salary Schedule.
  • Continued employment contingent upon receiving Migrant funds.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
  • Procedures, methods, techniques, and strategies utilized in the development of school and community liaison processes
  • Methods, techniques, and strategies utilized in dealing with sensitive school and community problems, issues and concerns.
  • English and a second language, as required by the assignment at least sufficient to fulfill the duties to be performed;
  • Basic arithmetic concepts;
  • Perform routine clerical tasks and operate a variety of education and office related machines and equipment;
  • Comply with appropriate cleanliness standards, health and dress codes.
Ability to:
  • Communicate effectively in oral and written form in English and a second language, as required by the assignment;
  • Understand and carry out oral and written directions;
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with children and adults.
  • Operate a motor vehicle.
Experience:
  • Paid or voluntary experience working with children.
Education:
  • High School diploma or equivalent to completion of Twelfth Grade.
  • Must pass required test.
  • Valid California Driver's license.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION:
  • Recruit students for the Migrant Region that Fairfax School District resides in;
  • Recruit interested families in supplementary social health services as provided by the Migrant Program;
  • Travel to locations to recruit Migrant families (i.e. packing sheds, dairy farms, agricultural fields)
  • Direct services to students from the list provided by the Migrant Coordinator, initiate contact with recently identified migrant students through phone calls, home visits or other media;
  • Support and assist students with the enrollment process to the chosen academic program;
  • Provide support for parents/families as needed
  • In cooperation with the Migrant Coordinator, provide supplementary academic services to migrant students based on students' needs assessment (i.e. Spanish Literacy tutoring, PASS Program);
  • Serve as a liaison providing communication among Migrant Education, the youth, their families and the agencies serving them;
  • Maintain accurate and reliable records of contacts and services provided to students and parents through the contact log, and ensure that individual files contain all required documentation
  • Recruit students for educational and motivational field trips;
  • Supervise and travel with students on field trips;
  • Attend meetings and in-service training sessions provided by the district and/or regional office;
  • Provide the Migrant Coordinator with an update on active cases, closed cases, and new contacts
  • Provide accurate reports of job duties (i.e. weekly contact log, monthly new cases report)
  • Assist Migrant Coordinator in the organization of the office and program supplies
  • Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned essential functions of this job description are the following essential physical requirements:

  • 10% Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.
  • 10% Ability to see for purposes of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matter and observing students.

  • 10% Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation.
  • 10% Ability to bend and twist, kneel and stoop, run and crawl.
  • 10% Ability to operate a motor vehicle.
  • 30% Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time.
