One Mighty Mill is a fast-growing startup B-corp, on a mission to bring back local food systems that help our communities be healthy and thrive. We are building a supply chain that tie locally sourced organic wheat to our own stone mills to produce healthy whole wheat flour to make delicious and nutritious bread, bagels, and tortillas. We are looking for a head miller to operate and maintain our stone mills located in Blauvelt, NY and partner with our other millers based in Hyde Park MA and Sebastopol CA.

Responsibilities:

• Operate One Mighty Mill’s stone mills to produce whole grain organic flour for use in our bread and other products. This will involve overseeing and optimizing our stone mills to achieve optimal throughput and extraction rates and ensure all cleaning protocols are followed.
• Test all incoming wheat and milled flour to ensure product is to specifications.
• Identify when mills are not operating as expected and troubleshoot. Identify optimal milling for each type of wheat based on its characteristics.
• Work with our head of logistics, based on Massachusetts, to arrange and receive wheat and work with our locally based bakery partner to coordinate regular delivery of flour and ingredients based on production needs.
• Work with our mill builder, one of the only mill builders in the country, to oversee our milling maintenance program and construct new mills as we expand capacity.
• Partner with our director of quality control, who is based in Blauvelt NY, to test wheat varietals from current organic farmers and new partners to use in our products. Use this information to inform our purchasing plan.
• Work with local regulators to outline our safety and cleaning procedures on a consistent basis in line with all local and federal requirements.
• Manage hourly staff as needed to hit flour production goals.

Qualifications:

• Experience working with mechanical equipment and basic understanding of how to fix things. Ability to operate and maintain testing equipment.
• Ability to keep detailed notes and record data to improve processes.
• Interest in working hard to challenge the industrial food system as part of a passionate team. Interest in learning how to use testing equipment to produce flour to spec.
• Interest in working on site at our milling site in Blauvelt NY (e.g. this is not an office job). Timing of milling operations each day can be flexible, provided we are operating a full shift.
• Strong oral and written communication skills. Willingness to speak up when things go wrong and also provide recommendations for improvement.
• Willingness and ability to manage hourly labor and ensure we are attracting and retaining reliable staff. Fluency in Spanish a plus.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00 - $65,000.00 per year
