The school is committed to teaching in diverse modes to accommodate a variety of learning styles. The school is looking for a middle and Upper School Learning Specialist with the following skills.
Essential Job Functions
- Coordinate, facilitate and manage Middle School Support Team Meetings, which includes meetings with faculty, administrators, and parents to devise an educational plan for individual students.
- Attend weekly Upper School Counseling Meetings
- Apply for standardized testing accommodations on behalf of students with disabilities.
- Review psychoeducational evaluations; summarize documents for future reference.
- Work in collaboration with other Learning Specialist to maintain systems for managing workload and communicating with school stakeholders.
- Observe and informally assess students to identify learning, social and emotional factors that impact performance.
- Interact with school personnel and families to discuss learning profiles and effective teaching strategies.
- Attend meetings to keep up to date with the student community and provide expertise on learning issues and appropriate interventions.
- Work with one-on-one with students on a short-term basis to provide support and determine need for self-advocacy or additional services.
- Prepare presentations to faculty, conduct workshops.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree in special education or educational therapy, or equivalent experience.
- Knowledge of learning disabilities and developmental exceptionalities.
- Understanding of testing instruments used in psychoeducational evaluation and experience interpreting reports.
- Evaluation of where breakdowns in learning occur; ability to recommend targeted interventions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with members of the community, including students, parents, teachers, administrators as well as outside professionals.
