A Middle School World Language teacher at Forsyth Country Day School provides a safe, nurturing environment for students in his or her classroom, utilizing the school’s instructional program. The World Language Department believes students should be global citizens so by integrating the world language standards developed by the American Council of Teachers of Foreign Languages, FCDS aims to facilitate the development of strong comprehension and speaking skills, develop ease and confidence with reading and writing skills, encourage students’ integration of language learning across their daily academic experience, and introduce students to the joys and beauty of language learning. Our World Language teachers are passionate about teaching and celebrating Spanish language and Hispanic cultures and should be committed to collaborating with colleagues. Teachers are committed to growth as professionals and individuals, and value and respect every member of the community.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teach five sections of proficiency-based Spanish using comprehensible input strategies.
Invests in the life of the school by serving as a homeroom advisor, and participating in department meetings, team meetings, teaching and learning training, and any and all aspects that support the student experience.
Employs a variety of teaching methods including individual and small group instruction to meet the needs of students with varying abilities, attitudes, and backgrounds.
Encourages an inclusive classroom that accepts the different perspectives and backgrounds of the students and elicits a greater understanding of the world around them with a global perspective.
Provides tutorials as necessary for students in need of extra academic support.
Communicates regularly with parents of students including conducting conferences.
Identifies pupil needs, and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems.
Maintains a positive attitude and conducts oneself professionally including discretion, judgment, and integrity with respect to students, faculty, parents, and the community
Collaborates with Department members for the advancement of the Spanish program and student achievement.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to positively contribute to a team environment and to our school community
Knowledge of and ability to support Middle School students’ social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development
Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills with the ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with all constituents.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
Demonstrates effective classroom management skills
Able to manage multiple tasks and priorities and meet deadlines set by the Director
Maintains a healthy sense of humor
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Spanish required; Coursework in education is preferred
Experience teaching with Comprehensible Input (TCI)
3 or more years of classroom teaching experience, or related experience preferred
Teaching license preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Regularly required to walk, including across uneven ground, talk, hear, reach with hands and arms, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds
Must be able to sit and stand throughout the day, and bend, kneel, or squat to be at eye level with children.
Must be able to operate a computer and have basic knowledge of Google Workspace
Must be able to access and navigate all areas of the school and other facilities as needed
Must be able to utilize oral and written communication skills effectively
