Job description

On August 19th, 2021, Gov. Kate Brown announced that all Oregon K-12 educators, staff and volunteers will be required to be fully vaccinated by October 18th, 2021 or six weeks after full federal approval, whichever is later. Exceptions to this requirement are limited to Medical or Religious exceptions. This is in accordance with OAR 333-019-1030

PURPOSE: Keeping within the law, board policies, and administrative rules, the primary responsibility of the teacher is in the instruction of students. Instruction refers to the teaching/learning process that includes student guidance and management, as well as a demonstration of skills and knowledge in subject area(s) to be taught. When required, the teacher will also contribute to total school planning in the areas of budgeting, curriculum, and evaluating programs.
The teacher builds appropriate relationships with students that foster a safe and supportive learning environment. The teacher provides the opportunity for each student to meet the state standards through sound instructional and assessment practices aligned with the vision of the Brookings-Harbor School District. The teacher provides opportunities for each student to develop socially, intellectually, emotionally, and physically. Provide for the health, welfare, and safety of all children.
REPORTS TO: Principal or Vice Principal
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Conducts oneself in the best interest of students, in accordance with the highest traditions of public education and in support of the District's Mission.
Provides a variety of classroom techniques and methods.
Promotes high levels of achievement in relation to individual student abilities.
Uses techniques and methodologies appropriate to student abilities.
Utilizes current and relevant subject matter.
Demonstrates knowledge of and ability to use research-based principles of effective instruction.
Organizes instruction using learning objectives with clearly defined student outcomes.
Employs teaching strategies congruent with planned student outcomes.
Selects teaching strategies emphasizing student involvement.
Monitors student learning and pace instruction accordingly.
Develops and maintains an environment conducive to effective student learning.
Develops written rules of classroom behavior and communicate those rules to all students.
Enforces written rules for classroom behavior.
Communicates course goals and academic expectations to students.
Provides for the health and safety of students in all instructional settings.
Prepares effectively; prepares daily lesson plans; provides instruction predicated on course goals and objectives.
Develops and communicates appropriate grading standards to students.
Establishes written grading standards that are clear and incorporate a variety of graded activities.
Ensures that grading standards are explained and available to parents.
Develops and maintains positive interpersonal relationships.
Models personal behaviors of honesty, fairness, courtesy and consideration.
Maintains a cooperative relationship with students.
Maintains a cooperative relationship with administration, staff, and parents.
Shares appropriate information with parents and with other staff members.
Documents and provides documentation of students' progress.
Provides timely and accurate feedback/documentation to students, parents, and appropriate staff members.
Assigns and checks homework and provide feedback to students.
Maintains appropriate records of student performance.
Builds motivation and interest in learning.
Exhibits personal interest and encourages student interest in the subject area.
Maintains a current awareness of literature/activities in subject area.
Maintains an ongoing personal program of professional growth and development.
Develops and implements annually an approved plan for professional growth and development.
Identifies opportunities for professional growth intended to increase the teacher's instructional effectiveness
Participates in District sponsored in service offerings appropriate to assignment.
Cultivates and models a respectful working and learning environment.
Maintains effective working relationships with school personnel, students, and parents. Effectively works and communicates with students, parents, and staff from diverse cultures or backgrounds including those who speak limited or no English

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree or higher in education or other acceptable educational training.
Valid Oregon teaching license with appropriate subject endorsement if needed.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The Teacher works primarily within the school building. Although the primary work is indoors, the Teacher frequently works outdoors supervising students, in variable weather conditions including inclement weather. Some teachers have assignments that are routinely outside, such as a Physical Education or Agriculture Teacher. The incumbent must be able to stand and/or walk for long periods of time. The incumbent will need to walk quickly at times, as well as speak and hear in often loud environments.
The position involves high level of interaction with students and families from multiple and diverse backgrounds many who have particular or unique needs. The mental demands on the Teacher are considerable. The incumbent must maintain control under stress, and must manage him/herself in the presence of emotionally challenging interactions with staff, students, and parents.
