Scottsdale Christian Academy (SCA) is a Christ-Centered covenant Christian school in our 5th decade in metropolitan Phoenix, Arizona. First founded in 1968, the high school opened in 1973, and has maintained its core mission of maximizing the God-given potential of each student, preparing them to live lives of distinction, by impacting the world for Jesus Christ. SCA conducts pre-employment and drug screening for all positions which includes a criminal background check, verification of work history, academic credentials, licenses, and certifications. A Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card is also required.
This position may include teaching a combination of Physical Education (PE) and other related classes for 6th – 8th grades. The PE instructor is responsible for planning and implementing educational units of study that cover terms and concepts of different Physical Education/athletics/activities, monitoring students, and promoting cooperation, teamwork, and sportsmanship. We are seeking an individual who is passionate about Christian education and is called to work with youth, desiring them to grow in their understanding of Physical Education with a biblical perspective. Beyond preparing lessons, this applicant will also take on routine responsibilities common to all SCA teaching staff. Our teachers are responsible for fulfilling the mission of SCA by equipping minds through engaging, innovative instruction and nurturing hearts by mentoring young people as a spiritual leader and role model. This teacher will report directly to the Middle School Principal.
REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL QUALITIES:
- Education & Certification:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Education, Exercise Science, Health Science, Kinesiology, or a related field from an accredited college is required; Master’s Degree preferred.
- State teaching certification preferred.
- Experience:
- Training in Physical Education and best practices in teaching is required.
- Prior teaching experience preferred.
- Skills:
- Ability to design lessons that teach curriculum in an engaging manner, applying various teaching methods.
- Ability to develop authentic relationships with young adults
- Strong supervisory and leadership skills to manage and control the classroom.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and problem resolution skills with the proven ability to maintain professionalism and tact in high-stress situations.
- Excellent organizational skills for multi-tasking and prioritizing responsibilities.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software. Knowledge of FACTS a plus.
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Physical Requirements:
- Bend, stoop, twist, turn, reach, lift up to 50 pounds, carry, pull, push, climb, and kneel; walking and standing approximately 75% of the workday.
- Enjoys being outside in AZ weather at regular intervals up to 75% of the workday.
- Must be able to traverse school grounds and lead students to safety in the event of an emergency.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Display a deep knowledge of Physical Education; well trained in P.E. content knowledge and effective in engaging teaching strategies.
- Display the ability to connect Biblical truth to Middle School students.
- Promote student engagement to inspire and encourage progress while supporting and strengthening the skills of each student.
- Maintain a healthy learning environment for the students as well as instruction while monitoring and managing students’ behavior, including appropriate enforcement of student behavior rules.
- Maintain records by documenting skill accomplishments, attendance, and behavior.
- Establish and adjust course syllabi outlines and objectives by following curriculum guidelines and school goals.
- Teach classes indoors and outdoors following prescribed scope and sequence as scheduled by the Administrator/Principals.
- Attain an ACSI 2-year Temporary Certificate within the first year of employment and an ACSI Standard Certificate within 3 years of employment.
