Job description

Iber Holmes Gove Middle School is Raymond's grade 4 - 8 school with a student population of 430+/-. We are a team based school with five grade level teams and a unified arts team. Each grade level team is made up of four to five classroom teachers and a special education case manager. The unified arts team is made up of the art, computer, family & consumer science, health, librarian, music, physical education, and technology education teachers.

 

IHGMS is actively engaged in implementing a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) for both academics and behaviors. Along with core academics and unified arts our schedule includes an intervention & enrichment periods. Our goal is to have 80% of our students master their grade level standards in reading and math through a competency based education system.

 

Our Special Education Case Managers/Teachers are a member of each grade level team and manage the IEP's for that grade level in collaboration with the grade level academic and unified arts teachers. There are six special education case managers, several special education paraeducators per grade level and the building special education coordinator who make up the special education program at IHGMS.
We have a school nurse, 2 School Counselors, a substance abuse counselor, social worker, 2 behavior coaches, a School Pyschologist and an SEL Teacher.

TITLE: School CounselorMiddle School- 190.5 days

 

REPORTS TO: School Principal or Assistant Principal

 

EVALUATION: Educators will be observed annually and evaluated in accordance of the Raymond Educator Effectiveness Plan

 

SUPERVISES: N/A

 

GENERAL SUMMARY:

 

 Assists in the developmental needs of all students through a comprehensive school counseling program addressing the academic, career and personal/social development of all students. 

 

To assist students in facilitating learning success in school as well as for their future through educational, career, personal and social goals.  To provide direct and indirect services by implementing the Raymond School District Comprehensive Guidance Program.  

 

QUALIFICATIONS (SKILLS/EXPERIENCE/TRAINING REQUIRED): Teacher will meet all qualifications and behavior standards as set by the State of New Hampshire authority.  In accordance with certification requirements and the performance expectations of the Raymond Public Schools, all classroom teachers shall meet the following employment criteria.

 
  • The minimum of a Master's Degree from an accredited college or university.

  • A valid New Hampshire Teacher's Certificate (applicable level-area endorsements preferred.)

  • A completed credential file that meets Raymond Public School standards.

  • Professional verification of successful classroom teacher performance and/or student teaching experience.

  • Evidence of the willingness and the ability to comply with the standards for ethical and professional performance established by the State Board of Education.

  • Interview/file data will include evidence of sensitivity and respect for others and verification of the demonstrated ability to serve as a positive role model for youth.

  • Regular and predictable attendance is essential.

  • A minimum of a master's degree in school counseling

  • Meet the state of NH certification/ licensure standards 

  • Uphold the ethical and professional standards of American School Counselor Association

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

 
  • Create comprehensive school counseling programs that focus on student outcomes, teach student competencies and are delivered with identified professional competencies. 

  • Incorporate organizational assessments and tools that are concrete, clearly delineated and reflective of student and school needs. 

  • Provide services to students, parents, school staff and the community in the following areas: 

 

Direct Services with Students Direct services are in-person interactions between School Counselors and students and include the following: 

 
  • School Counseling Core Curriculum - This curriculum consists of structured lessons designed to help students attain the desired competencies and to provide all students with the knowledge, attitudes and skills appropriate for their developmental level. The school counseling core curriculum is delivered throughout the school's overall curriculum and is systematically presented by School Counselors in collaboration with other professional educators in K-12 classroom and group activities.

  • Individual Student Planning - Coordinate ongoing systemic activities designed to assist students in establishing personal goals and developing future plans.

  • Responsive Services - Responsive services are activities designed to meet students' immediate needs and concerns. Responsive services may include counseling in individual or small-group settings or crisis response. 

 

Indirect Services for Students
Indirect services are provided on behalf of students as a result of the School Counselors' interactions with others including referrals for additional assistance, consultation and collaboration with parents, teachers, other educators and community organizations. 

 

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 
  • Demonstrate the effectiveness of the school counseling program in measurable terms

  • Analyze school and school counseling program data to determine how students are different as a result of the school counseling program.

  • Use data to show the impact of the school counseling program on student achievement, attendance and behavior.

  • Analyze school counseling program assessments to guide future action and improve future results for all students. 

  • Performs other related duties as required by your supervisor.
