Microbiology Technician - Exciting Opportunity in West Jefferson, OH
Contract: 6-months contract to direct-hire
Schedule: M-F (1st shift) | Occasional overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays
Compensation: $21/hour + Paid Holidays

Job Summary: HRU is hiring a skilled In-Vitro Assay/Microbiology Technician for a renowned applied science organization in West Jefferson, OH. Join us in this dynamic 6-month contract-to-hire role. Dive into the heart of groundbreaking scientific work, providing technical support for standard and complex in-vitro assays, including PCR, ELISA, and cell-based wonders.
Major Responsibilities:Technical:
- Work with hazardous biological/toxic materials (BSL-2 and BSL-3).
- Conduct assays on diverse samples, contributing to pathogenicity studies and human clinical samples.
- Contribute to equipment and biological assay development and validation.
- Perform dilutions, mathematical calculations, and routine blood and tissue processing.
- Maintain mammalian, viral, and bacterial cell cultures.
Equipment/Lab:
- Be the lab's technical point of contact.
- Maintain a clean and efficient laboratory environment.
- Manage supply inventory, ordering, and receipt.
- Oversee waste management, autoclave operation, and preparation of decontamination solutions.
- Operate equipment, ensuring high-quality data production.
- Perform routine maintenance/calibration, prepare equipment logbooks, and use electronic databases for sample tracking.
- Set up, validate, and operate laboratory equipment and software.
Documentation/Compliance/Safety:
- Read SOPs, methods, and facility guidelines.
- Perform timely quality control and/or technical review of data.
- Create and maintain study files, adhering to SOPs and client specifications.
- Recognize and report deviations from accepted practices.
- Adhere to all laboratory safety requirements.
Leadership/Teamwork:
- Train and guide less experienced staff.
- Serve as a technical co-lead on studies.
- Work independently and efficiently within a team environment.
Analysis/Functional:
- Work on semi-routine assignments, recognizing deviations from accepted practices.
- Verify accuracy and reasonableness of project work.
- Conduct standard and non-standard tasks, keeping the supervisor informed.
Requirements:
- Associate degree in microbiology/molecular biology with 1 year of experience or equivalent.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Willingness to obtain/maintain relevant certifications and approvals.
- Ability to work in a biosafety level 2 (BSL2) and 3 (BSL3) environment, wearing appropriate respiratory protection.
- Willingness to be immunized and participate in random drug screening.
- Ability to respond to alarms and potential emergency situations.
- Medically fit to work in a lab wearing appropriate respiratory equipment, including night, weekend, and holiday hours.
