Microbiology Laboratory Technician Position Summary:
The Microbiology Laboratory Technician will be responsible for performing Quality Control microbiological testing of in-process and finished products and performing laboratory support tasks while adhering to all applicable regulations, policies, and procedures of a cGMP environment. Must have working knowledge of United States Pharmacopeia guidance, U.S. Food and Drug Administration regulations, and other applicable regulatory agencies pertaining to QC microbiological testing.
Microbiology Laboratory Technician Job Description
- Responsible for performing microbiological testing such as Gram Staining, Growth Promotion, Bioburden, and Membrane Filtration.
- Preparation and testing of in-house media following Standard Operating Procedures.
- Maintain microbiological stock cultures for “Positive” controls within the Microbiology Laboratory.
- Perform Environmental Monitoring of both the facility and Microbiology Laboratory.
- Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures of the laboratory and equipment.
- Maintain inventory of Microbiology Laboratory supplies such as media, dehydrated media, consumables, and reagents necessary for day-to-day operations.
- Assist with regulatory and client inspections and audits.
- Assist with investigations, Out of Specifications (OOS), and Corrective Action/Preventative Actions (CAPAs), as needed.
- Participates and collaborates with other departments throughout the organization.
- Additional tasks and responsibilities may be assigned.
Microbiology Laboratory Technician Skills/Competencies
- 2-4 years relevant experience
- B.S. Degree in Microbiology, Biology, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of basic Microbiological competencies such aseptic technique, pipetting, colony-counting, etc.
- Familiarity with USP, FDA, cGMP concepts and regulations.
- Familiarity with laboratory data management and document management systems.
- Proficient in computer/communication skills – Microsoft office and excel.
- Attention to detail – ensure that testing and procedures are carried out according to established methods.
- Laboratory Skills – Ability to use pH meter, balances (analytical and top loading), autoclave, and don appropriate PPE.
- Ability to adapt to changing schedule and work well under pressure.
- Proactive and dynamic approach to learning and teamwork.
- Positive attitude and works well with others.
