Job Description:
We are looking for a Poultry Microbiology Contractor in our Microbiome & Microbiology R&D group. Our state-of-the art labs are located in Wilmington, Delaware. The successful candidate will be responsible for working with a highly interactive multidisciplinary research team. The successful candidate will need to be willing to learn new techniques and technologies and have the flexibility to carry out multiple assignments.
Responsibilities:
- This position is in a technical services lab in support of our Animal Nutrition & Health business. The successful candidate is expected to learn new techniques and have the flexibility to carry out multiple assignments. The ability to work in a very interactive team environment is required, as is a passion for science and technology. The work will involve one or more aspects of the following:
- General lab organization, project planning, and task coordination among team members
- Enrichment and isolation of microbes from animal tissue samples (e.g.,, poultry gastrointestinal tracts, organ tissue, litter samples, etc.)
- Genetic characterization of strains using molecular biology and bioinformatic tools (PCR, qPCR, RAPDs, BioNumerics).
- Responsible for microbiological evaluations including enumeration and stability studies for R&D, regulatory dossiers, customer support, and/or technical services / business support.
- Be an owner/accountable/responsible for the data being entered pertaining to DFM product, animal premix and animal feed studies.
- Makes detailed observations, prepares data for analyses, and maintains lab notebook.
- Ship material to third-party labs, internal labs for testing required for product registrations (requirements can change over time based on the registration)
- Receive, challenge, and test the product, animal premix and animal feed material, containing the DFM spores, to assess viability (one time or over time). Upload the data using the template files to the SharePoint Site to keep key stakeholders informed of progress on testing
- Execute blending of product into animal premixtures, aliquot and challenge the samples for premix studies. Test the samples over time.
- Work closely with pelleting facility to have product samples dosed into animal feed samples (mash and pellet) – have samples received by the lab to be challenged and tested over time.
- Enrichment and isolation of microbes from environmental and animal tissue samples (e.g., water samples, poultry gastrointestinal tracts, organ tissue, litter samples, etc.)
Qualifications::
- B.S. in microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, animal sciences or related field.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently executing multiple experiments simultaneously.
- Experience with animal feed stability microbiology studies is a plus.
- Methodical, systematic and accurate approach, with attention to detail and can consistently follow Standard Operating Procedures.
- Plays a role in developing new products for more sustainable animal production.
- Written and oral communication skills are required.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $27.00 - $30.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
Schedule:
