Job description

Manager of Workers Compensation Claims

Hybrid Work Schedule available!

The North Carolina League of Municipalities is seeking a Manager of Workers Compensation Claims. The purpose of this position is to plan, organize, administer, and manage the workers' compensation program which includes some Third-Party Administration. This is accomplished by ensuring compliance with NC Industrial Commission guidelines as well as NCLM claim handling practices. The Workers Compensation Claims Manager strives to deliver quality service and to that end, introduces process improvements as well as supports, develops, and mentors claims staff to ensure excellent claim service to all parties. This is a regular full-time exempt role, which reports to the Senior Director of Risk Management Services.

Additional Duties Include:

  • Reviewing claims; working one on one with staff, managing leave requests, questions and concerns; understanding League policies; responding to inquiries and complaints; evaluating problems and taking appropriate action.


  • Managing all outside vendors to ensure that their quality of service meets or exceeds NCLM expectations.


  • Preparing files by investigating claims, determining compensability, and identifying subrogation; responding in timely manner to injured workers' motions or forms; and ensuring that motions and forms are filed by attorneys and rehabilitation professionals.


  • Performing administrative duties by furnishing file material opposing counsel pursuant and attorney; responding to compensation questions; generating correspondence as needed; and sending medical bills


  • Preparing and updating NCLM Workers' Compensation manual; assisting with incoming RFP's; developing internal forms for general use in the claims system; preparing NCLM Board Reports and other reports for individual NCLM departments or members upon request.


  • Having general knowledge of NC General Statutes related to Workers' Compensation and current case law; obtaining statements from injured workers; determining compensability; and assigning approved outside vendors claims.


  • Overseeing continuing education and training by obtaining 12 credits per year to maintain NC adjuster's license; maintaining certified workers compensation professional certificate; identifying courses and seminars; providing training to members; and attending additional courses as directed.


Requirements:

  1. Bachelor's degree or equivalent


  1. Over 9 years' experience in claims processing and supervising performance for a regular group of employees or department.


  1. North Carolina Adjuster's License and Valid Class C Driver's License
